The water to stone thing does seem to give credence to why May is 'more' worried than normal. And as much as maybe 'curing' the statues could be on her mind... well how the heck did THEY get there in the first place? Not many are supposed to be able to enter.
And if this thing 'is' the reason it's all stone, then there's not a lot of proctection for her, May, or her pokemon. And she brought a bunch of her less trained with her...

Unfortunately, it seems no answers will be gleaned. While it makes at least some sense that there may be living humans within the Ilex Dungeon, Union Cave doesn't have nearly as many available resources unless you hunt Pokemon. Even then, with something like that serpent around, any humans who were 'meant' to be here may also have been eliminated. In any case, maybe May's worries can be assuaged if Victoria tries talking to Aima about this. Which...may be prudent to do anyhow. Whether or not one believes she may be able to find a way to undo petrification.

Talking to Aima is probably a good idea. But that's... another day. For now she's got to get her goo-love outta here. She takes May by the hand and begins leading her back.

It takes some time, but there's backtracking back out of the dungeon, and then a body-suit flight back to the ranch. Once back, and once May is reformed, she looks over.
"You ok now? We are back safe and sound."

May looked visibly relieved merely upon leaving the Dungeon. She's still a bit shaken up, but much better now that they're back at the ranch. She nods in response to the question. "Y-yeah. Much better now!"

"Good. I don't want to worry you just so I can train my pokemon. There's always other ways of doing that."
She blushes a bit as she thinks about what to say next.
"I love you May, and I don't want to upset you. Only things that make you and I happy!"

Victoria is happily dragged off for naughty times. Fast forward a few days, and some fights in-town, and now Victoria's up and re-ready to challenge Jasmine!
After breakfast she looks over to May.
"Ready for lucky number 3?"

May nods, eager to watch Victoria kick that Steelix's ass. Jasmine offers her heartfelt greetings and wishes of good fortune in combat for Victoria when she arrives to challenge her again. Volkner is still around, and offers a brilliant smile and a thumbs up of his own.

And that's game. Victoria sighs. Something 'really' went wrong there, she's not really sure. Her pokemon just could 'not' land hits. She sighs again and just retreats for now, aiming to come back tomorrow.
Victoria, now very much in an annoyed funk, is mounting up the next morning to try number four.

After a very, very long battle, Victoria's dragonair, Lind, falls once more. Jasmine's steelix looks far worse for wear than any other attempt she's made so far, but it roars its triumph nonetheless. Jasmine walks forward and gently pats its head before recalling it to rest. She offers a passionate speech about Victoria's skills and whatnot, which Victoria at first may think (in the haze of defeat) is just rubbing it in. Right up until Jasmine offers her the Mineral Badge. A soft smile graces the aging Gym Leader's lips as she holds it out for Victoria to take or leave.
Victoria gains 103 Poke XP, 0.5 Misc XP, and a Milestone if she accepts.

Jasmine’s rousing speech after a defeat gives her a sense of deja vu, but then she’s offered a badge. Yup, it was that feeling again. Like Morty. But after four tries, and getting real close, she’s gonna take it. She reaches out for it. Unhappy about it, for sure, as a repeat, but if she’s stuck at this wall forever then that’s not helpful either.
”Your Steelix is something else, so I guess I’ll take it if only to avoid attempt five.”

Jasmine seems to understand. She also (jokingly) asks if Victoria will grace her with another battle in the future. She fully suspects the answer is a vehement 'no way, José!', but she's not offended. She knows full well her team (especially Steelix) are extremely difficult to fight for the Badge, and most challengers struggle with just that much and have no plans to try something even harder (ba dum tish!). She wishes Victoria luck in all her future challenges, just like everyone else.

Jasmine nods. "I understand. Were I in your place, I would likely feel much the same. I want you to keep in mind that Gym Leaders don't give out 'pity' badges. Doing so only hurts a trainer in the long run. You have earned this badge, even through your many defeats." She smiles. "If you do choose to return, know that I welcome another challenge."

May immediately drags Victoria off to celebrate. They're eating out tonight! What neither of them expect is for a certain pink-haired gym leader to turn up with intent to join in on the party! She still asks permission to be polite.
