"Don't know. Felt like a thing I could do," the Ditto says, "but also never felt that way before. Possibly could be a thing to do with the metal person. She helped Rory with a weird light. Let her find you. Made me tingle. Maybe that was it? Just wanted to keep her safe. Didn't think much about it. Hurts now, though, if not like this. Hurts and aches and hurts..."

"Do you remember the metal person have a colored square of stone with markings on it when this happened?" Mica dipped to one side. "Maybe I can help if I went and got the Normal plate... And Cyrene, since she knows more about it then we do. Well, then I do..."

"Yes. It glowed. She said it would help us," the Ditto says, simply. "Rory said she felt it. So probably did help. Don't know. All weird. You're weird, too. Different than me. But also change. Weird, weird, weird. All is weird, now."

"Give me some time, and look after Rory as best you can. I think she might need some time to herself anyway. I gave her some stuff to think about."
Hesitating, Mica slowly returned to her human self. She leaned down and tugged Aurora's blanket up a little higher, and gave her a little kiss atop her head. "Guess this is goodbye, try to be good. Not everyone gets second chances."
With a little sigh, she went to the Pokemon center to have her Pokemon looked after, and leave a message for Donovan, which amounted to "I will be heading to Steel, then Normal."

The other girl is fast asleep already, the day's events clearly having taken a toll on her. Mica's able to easily leave, slipping out without being interrupted. The Attendant takes her letter after getting a description of Donovan, and she's able to get her 'mon healed, switched up, and ready to go.
With that all out of the way, making her way to the edge of the city, the vastness of the evening sky spreads out before Mica. There's not a cloud obstructing the sunset. And for the first time since the fateful encounter at the Temple, she is truly alone. There's no sensei. No Elders. No nothing. Just her, and her choices.

Everything was heavy. Not in the way it was when she was a bonsly. Not in the way it was when she was scared for the future. Junthem had the right if it all along. Together they had been the mountain, alone she was sand. She had taken the lesson to heart, and it twisted in her gut now.
All she knew about sand, was it got into all sorts of places it wasn't supposed to. So off to the steel temple she went.

Unfortunately, even with Drampa's speed, it's still late, cold, and getting dark. The Steel Temple will have to wait until the next day. If she pushes, she might be able to reach Kouchi before Drampa tires too much, or she can just sleep in the forest somewhere along the way. The Lab is in that town, so maybe it might be a good (or, at least interesting) stop the next day anyways.

Settling in, Mica sets up camp, not willing to go too hard on Drampa, having already pushed him that day. She rests in her bedroll under cold, distant stars with a fire burning brightly at her side. This is how she felt before her journey began. This was why she had tried so hard to find friends where she could and hold them close. Even her friends were wrong in ways the rest of the world wouldn't accept. Maybe even in ways she couldn't accept.

Under the starry, cloudless sky, Mica finds her attempts at an easy rest interrupted by the periodic rolling of thunder across the land, and flashes of light across the sky. Eventually, though, she manages to sleep, the light and sound dying down.
As she wakes up in the frigid morning, she finds two pairs of eyes curiously watching her. They belong to a pair of cute humanoid rodents, fairy-like wings on their back, one flaming red and radiating heat, while the other ice blue and even colder than the surroundings. The pair chatter to each other excitedly as Millie wakes up, before freezing as they appear to realize that she can probably hear them.

Thunder but no rain was certainly an odd occurrance, but she was thankful for the sleep when it came. Drampa got to rest easy in his ball, she knew the fluffy dragon probably didn't much enjoy the winter chill in the air.
When she woke, she had company again. Before Donovan, and their journey together, Pokemon had been her only friends, not for trial and error in the process. "Oh, good morning." She waved slowly from her bedroll. The heat would be welcome, but she didn't know if she could take much more cold.

The pair jump as she speaks, fluttering up into the air, before chattering to each other with a lot of glances her way. The red one seems much more energetic, while the blue one looks with a bit more caution. With the blue one hovering curiously and watching, the red alights down in front of her sleeping roll - the heat visible radiating off of the little thing - and cocks its head and makes cute baby eyes in a gesture that Mica knows very well from similar Pokémon. It's the "you're going to share food with us, right? Right? Riiiiiiiight?" gesture.

"Course you can have a snack with me." Mica beamed, drinking in the waves of heat off the little fairy mouse. "I can't really make anything too nice, I never learned how, but I have some dried fruit, and some tree nuts." Digging out a few small containers of trail fare, she let the rodents have their pick, idly chewing on a few dried figs. "You have each other for company, even though you are really different." There was a little pause. "Do you ever not get along? Find it hard to be near each other?"

The Pokémon eagerly take some of the offered food, the red one holding nuts and berries in between its hands until they ignite, the little 'mon reacting with childish awe at every bursting into flame. The blue one flutters down to a bit of a safer distance, and mostly looks to grab things when it thinks Mica isn't looking, giggling when it grabs something before scarfing it down.
Her question about differences seems to be answered as the red one's flames spark up too much cooking one thing, and the fruit slice flies out of the mouse's hands to land on the foot of the blue one, who cries in pain and swiftly bolts up into the sky, fluttering up high jabbering down irately at its compatriot. The red one stares up silently at the blue, before it slumps down staring at the ground and begins to cry. The blue looks a little contrite at its outburst, and mostly concentrates on summoning some snow to put on its foot, not meeting the gaze of either Mica or the red one.

A soft, breathy chuckle escapes Millie, steaming into the chilly air as she reaches out and strokes behind the ears of the crying rodent. "Hey, it'll be okay." She looked up at the blue mouse. "They didn't mean it, and your foot will get better." Then to the red mouse. "Your friend is sorry for what they said, even if they don't feel like apologizing right now."
So that was how it was. Millie wasn't sorry for helping Polaris, but it had clearly and deeply upset Donovan. Maybe it was a different thing entirely. "When you care about each other, stuff doesn't matter as much in the long run." She told herself as much as she did her new companions.

The red rodent is warm to the touch, the tears steaming off into the air before they hit the ground. Slowly, it calms down, and stares between Mica, and the still somewhat glowering blue flutterer. Slowly, it picks itself up and dusts itself off, before making its way back to Mica's food, grabbing another berry. It hovers up towards the blue one, not meeting its compatriot's gaze, holding out the food as a gift.
The blue one glances at the red, then at Mica, then at the food, then at its foot, then back at the red, and seems to hold there, clearly torn.

"They are trying their best, and they didn't intend to hurt you. They are very sorry." Mica explained to the blue rodent. "Sometimes accidents happen, and all you can do is recover. Good friends are more important then holding on to an injury."
Hiking up her sleeves, Mica showed off a plethora of scars. "My friends are sharp, or bitey, or thorny, I love them very much still, but none of it hurts anymore."

Tentatively, the blue accepts the food, and gently chitters something at the red one. The fire ignites on the red, and it flutters around excitedly, throwing off sparks and flames as it happily yammers on. The blue has to dodge several embers swiftly, and sighs, a bit of an exasperated smile on its face. It glances at Millie as the red wings around more.

"That's just how friends are sometimes." Millie beamed, pleased with the whole interaction. Idly, she wondered again if she shouldn't seek Junthem's council on recent events, but thinking on it he would just push his dislike of Donovan's typings on the situation and she couldn't really deal with that right now.
"You are both welcome to come with me if you would like." She offered to the fairy mice. "I travel a lot, and I am doing something very important, but I will always make a little time for my friends."

The two rodents chitter at each other in discussion, flitting to and fro… before diving towards Mica's stuff and crawl around and poke their heads into everything. Thankfully, nothing catches on fire, but her sleeping bag might have a few extra scorch marks. What they find after wriggling around seems to make the pair happy (also they may have snagged a bit more food), so they flutter in front of Millie and nod. You caught a Delta Plusle! Mica adjusted her pack and looked skyward. Drampa had earned a rest for today, and it had been awhile since she just took a walk. So walk she did, her Dex's map gave her everything she needed. Hopefully Donovan was alright, wherever he was.
