Melissa narrows her eyes and points dramatically. "Show yourself, interloper! Know that Macavity fears no forest beast!"

The Pumkaboo flips the fuck out from Melissa's exclamation. Does this woman know no chill?

Melissa startles in turn - she'd thought there was something hiding behind the pumpkins, not that they were motile! "Ah! Don't think you have the better of me just because you and your vegetable cohort have me surrounded!"

It looks around in confusion. the rest seem to just be pumpkins.
Melissa's mind: 'That's what they want you to think!'

"Hah! Don't think I'll fall for such an obvious ploy. I admit your kindred's pretense of inanimacy is convincing, but I'm more than capable of connecting the dots. You're neither large nor particularly threatening as solitary Pokemon go, so naturally you wouldn't attempt to ambush a trainer alone."

It tries to explain it was sleeping and Melissa just woke it up! It likes it here cause everyone just thinks it's a true groud like the others!

Melissa scoffs. "A likely story. True gourds don't sleep!"

"Enough of your clever lies! Oppenheimer, subdue this creature!" Melissa's new Pineco emerges from its Pokeball directly in front of the fleeing Pumpkaboo. Initiative Oppenheimer - 1

"Hah! You cannot hope to escape the awesome power of Pineco! Now, Oppenheimer!" As the little Pumpkaboo tries to run past, Melissa's Pineco puffs up and - KABOOM!Oppenheimer uses Self-Destruct... which I'm not going to bother rolling for, because it's a Normal-type move used against a Ghost. Melissa will then throw a Pokeball.

The Pumkaboo stops hearing the big explosion and looks around at the huge explosion that failed to get anywhere 'near' Pumkaboo. If through shock of the first explosion or embarrassment at it, Melissa gives the most un-enthusiastic throw of a ball the little pokmeon (or Melissa) has ever seen. It actually lands only about 4 feet in front of Melissa and actually breaks in half.
[Melissa loses the thrown ball]
The Pumkaboo stands still before falling over in bawling laughter.

Melissa scowls. Her arm must be malfunctioning, she'll have to give it a tune-up tonight. "Laugh all you want, vexatious creature." She kicks a stone at it, but while her aim is better this time it still just passes through harmlessly. Curiosity starts to overcome her annoyance. "What are you? I've never seen anything shrug off an attack of that magnitude so completely."

It's still laughing too much to notice, so Melissa takes her dex out. A Pumkaboo. Grass and... oh. Ghost. And self-destruct is normal. Whoops.

Melissa snaps shut her Pokedex and glowers. Rather than try to muster a retort to the Pumpkaboo's laughter, she walks over and thwacks it on the head with a Pokeball. Capture? vsN1henn1d20 1d20

The Pumkaboo is caught up in Melissa’s dropped ball, and it closes immediately. She feels like maybe it took pity on her.

Mission accomplished, Melissa heads back to town, resolving never to speak to anyone of this.
