The irony was too much for Jace when he considered that they had already landed the first blow. The fact that he mistook him for Gurner was because he wasn't expecting Roderick to be coming down here all aggressive-like. Truth be told, Jace had no reason to suspect Roderick was going to try and kill them, except for Tully. Tully thought something was up, and Jace completely trusted Tully's danger sense. If Tully was mounting a preemptive strike, then they were all in danger.
Jace's expression turned serious. He stood up straight and pointed at Roderick. "I'm sorry, Roderick, I must have mistook you for the kind of person that would corner his victims in a trap filled hallway and then fill it with poison gas." Jace was putting a lot of trust in Tully here by calling out Roderick. Of course he wasn't going to land the first blow on Roderick, but if Jace was right about his intentions, he will happily throw the last one.

Jace's words causes another drastic change within the young boy. The anger disbands and Roderick's eyes grow wide as he looks down at the floor, illuminated thanks to Kowai's flames. "These are traps?" He sticks his foot out, tapping blindly againsts the wood flooring until he hears the trigger.
A few feet from him, a long blade erupts from the floor and swings in the air before retreating in the hole. "What a freakin' bother... Messing with Tatsumaki's things is the last thing you should do." He says with visual conflict. "You almost made me lose my head there for a second,Jace. Of course, Tatsumaki would forgive you of any wrongdoing like the good dog you are. But for me, I would end up like that!" He cackles as he points to Brooklyn.
Roderick turns his back to Jace, Sana, and Marietta with a destructive smile to bid adieu.

“Roderick,” Jace said in order to stop him from turning. “I should apologize.”
Again, Jace could not deny Tully’s instincts. Not only that but Ace was extremely apprehensive as well. Something stank, and Jace may have an idea why. “It’s just been so long since we’ve spoken, but you’re the one that recruited us in the first place. I remember that bank robbery like it was yesterday. I had no idea what I was doing, and Marietta was so fierce with her whip. Our Marietta,” he clarified, not wanting to implicated this Marietta in robbery.
“And you’re the one that traded with me for Gengar. You gave it to me for one of your pokemon that got away, what was it again?” He snapped his fingers, as if the pokemon was on the tip of his tongue.

"Jace, Sana there's something I have to tell you. I didn't think of it as important, until recent."
"Huh?" Roderick groans. "Is that important right now?" He takes out your old friend, Muk. A combination of blue, black, and green foreign goo consistently drips. Muk gestures with vermilion shards decorating its entire body. "See, we haven't aged a day. Are we done?"

A contradiction"It is important right now," Jace says. "Because you aren't the same Roderick that I know. You're from a different timeline!" Jace still kept that Psychic in the forefront of his mind, but he did not attack. If he was wrong, he'd look like an idiot. But judging by Marietta needing to tell them something, he knew that something was amiss. She wouldn't insist on telling him that this Roderick was totally normal. Jace was making a gamble, but it was far from 50/50.
Ace, for one, was ready to pounce, but held back.

"In my timeline... We couldn't find Roderick's body after Nadar dealt with Paradiso. I haven't seen him since, but he should be alot older than this. Though something has been bothering me about that kid's loyalty. Remember he was the one that was going to take Gurner to jail when we first beat him? How did he escape? Why is he here now?" Marietta takes a big gulp. "Maybe all Rodericks are on the side of ev-"
Roderick? interrupts Marietta with a irrepressible yawn. "That was a good one. It's relieving to know our personalities and motives don't change. Even though you should be dead tired from today, you have that focused look that bothers me so much, Jace. You must have something up your sleeve to be so confident against a genius!" Roderick's face matches Jace's seriousness as well. His lavender eyes pierce at Jace and Sana with indifference. "Now get the hell out of my way. My life isn't the one being spared tonight." Toxicroak and Muk become a bit agitated as well.

Tully nods to Jace briefly, silently thanking him before he darts away to the nearest hiding spot.

Finally, it clicked for Jace. Those two that talked to Marietta and Sana, they didn't care about Brooklyn, this was a trap. Sana's pokemon would have been annihilated by Roderick's Poison-type moves. It would have been too easy, and he could kill Brooklyn as a bonus. When Paradiso asks questions, he could have simply said that Marietta was trying to save her mother. Between the traps and any poison hazards Roderick created, escape would have been all but hopeless.
But the difference was Jace was here, and now the plans have changed. As a tactician, Jace was beginning to sense weakness in Roderick. He didn't like his odds in a three versus one, and that's not even counting Tully who he doesn't know about. He was bluffing, puffing up his body like a frog. Jace had him on the ropes now, he just had to deliver the dagger.
"How long have you been working for Nadar?" Jace wasn't guessing this time, he felt like he knew. He was forcing Roderick's hand. If Roderick fell back, Jace could go to Tatsumaki and it would be game over. If he fought, then it would be up to the Pokemon to decide, and there was nothing in this world Jace had more confidence about.

"When were you under the impression there was a time I wasn't working for Nadar?"
Roderick gives a crooked smile. The lingering foulness dripping from him directs towards the three trainers. He fixes his silver ponytail and loosens a button to his vest. They realize it was from the very beginning... that he had planned to make sure Nadar won. "You know the usual schtick, the Boss fears Nadar, for he will bring an end to all wars. Had I not recruited you, you could have seen it. Now I don't see one reason to let you live."
He pulls from his pockets, Scolipede and Crobat. "Let me show you the difference between us and those thiefs you fought so valiantly against! The offer still stands, Jace. I'll let you have the first attack, then I'll respond!"
Roderick and his pokemon engage their attention to Jace.

Tully smiles, slipping out and flicking a knife into his good hand. To his side, Tobias readies a blast of psychic energy the moment the fight starts. Lifting a hand, Tully signals Jace with his fingers. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...Tully uses Take Aim.

"Good, enough talk," he timed himself with Tully. "Go, Ace!" Jace fired off a blast of psychic energy, although it looked like Toxicroak was going to avoid it.
Jace uses Psychic as a Standard action and uses Critical Moment on Ace as a Swift action.

Toxicroak sidesteps the attack. She puffs her vocal sack, making a 'tsk tsk tsk' sound while swaying her claws. Though it was on the mark, she avoided the attack too effortlessly. Crobat: 30 Drapion (Sleeping): 24 Scolipede: 22 Toxicroak: 19 Roderick: 16 Muk: 3

Unfazed by Toxicroak dodging his attack, Jace released Gengar into the fray. Gengar, being a levitating pokemon, wouldn't trigger any traps. Gengar was slower to act than Ace however. Seeing the Bug-type pokemon, Ace saw his chance. Blasting the area around the Scolipede with a Sol Fire, Ace sprinted into melee. He knew he would have to create a front line to protect the trainers. Gengar also saw a type advantage, although this time it was the Fighting-type Toxicroak being too close to Ace. He moves in front of Ace, standing between him and Toxicroak. He blasts Toxicroak and the adjacent Roderick with a Dazzling Gleam. Jace uses his Shift Action to release Gengar, then uses his Standard + Swift action to command them both.
Ace uses Overheat and then Shifts into position.
Gengar shifts into position and then uses Dazzling Gleam.

Roderick and his pokemon drench in the fire. Scolipede wriggles around scathing but not too badly injured.
The room is filled with gleaming pink in a veil of purple aura. Toxicroak appears unfazed by the whole thing.
"You don't have to go that easy on me, old friend." Roderick reassures the Gengar he traded away.

Tully suppresses the many possible one-liners he could make as he darts out of his hiding place. The very first moment Roderick knows about him is the moment the knife hits him exactly where the he was hit by Ace's blast, piercing deep into his flesh. At the same moment, Tobias silently hovers forward and blasts Toxicroak before he can recover from dodging Jace's attack. As Roderick turns, Tully just gives him a smile and a wave. Tully: Swift: Disengage two metres Shift: Flutter Standard: Assurance on Roderick, boosted by Take Aim, Crits
Tobias: Shift: Move Standard: Psybeam on Toxicroak
Initiatives: Tully: 16 Tobias: 18

Roderick gasps for air from the wound Tully inflicted. "Drapion!" He yells, as he's more concerned how Drapion was defeated without a sound than Tully's appearance.
Crobat sees what going on between Scolipede and Ace and breaks it up. He swoops down for the prey, hovering above Ace, scratching up his back with deadly wing-talons. Scolipede and Toxicroak use this chance to split off from their group and distance themselves from their enemies.
They both perform Double Team on themselves.

Tully's eyes dart about, quickly assessing the situation. He nods towards Toxicroak and Tobias floats forward, blasting him with psionic energy before Tully follows it up with a knife. Tobias: Standard: Psybeam on Toxicroak Shift: Move
Tully: Swift: Disengage 2 metres Standard: Deadly Strike on Toxicroak Shift: Flutter

After getting hit by another psychic attack, Toxicroak barely avoids Tully's knife strike. Using fancy footwork to go beyond her normal movement. Tobias gives a troubled look at Tully's hand before preparing for the next attack. "..."Once he regains composure, Roderick rips the knife from his side. "After watching you I learned the art of impalement. I'll be taking this... for when it's time." He says before his body changes disappears into a pool of purple liquid, clothes and all of course. The pool of liquid slowly creeps up to the other side of the room. Toxicroak activates her first use of Double Team to gain +2 evasion.

Sana is starting to get used to the shenanigans of the members of Paradiso. As long as she remains in this headquarter filled with nutcases and hair-triggered fuse sociopaths all itching to mass murder anything within 1 centimeter, she needs to defend herself. Joy is brought out to the front of Sana. "Joy, protect us!" Joy nods and hardens her stance, swinging her arm around and erects a barrier all over her allies. Sana brings out her rod again, waving it high and encourages her team mates. "Never give up!"Amidst the chaos, Kowai laughs eerily in anticipation while hovering above the fairy hybrid girl, becoming Sana's source of unease again. Joy uses Reflect on her allies.
Sana uses Don't Stop Now! on all her allies, and binds Sentinel Stance on Joy.

Muk moves to the side of Ace and Gengar, shooting whatever fluid of oh his side onto the two. Gengar and Crobat don't seem to be affected by it, but Ace can be seen writhing. Sizzling can be heard from the wounds Crobat inflicted. Muk Shift Action: Two paces south Standard Action: Uses Venom Drench on Ace. (All poisoned targets have their Attack, Special, Attack, and Speed lowered by 1 CS. No AC) ---------- www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY-BvPriIBoFor a loudmouth like Roderick, the passiveness of him and his team are playing at is almost too unsettling. The smell of the torture room is almost forgotten as the battle enters its second round.
