"Yeah, guess it's true." Lillian says, smiling, "Never thought I'd see the day that I'd be a Trainer, though."
"Heh." She gives a few chuckles at his story, "Could have used her yesterday. Probably would have given those brutes a good smack or two upside the head."
"Oh, and, what about you? What have you seen on your travels? I'm always interested in stories."

Braxton laughed, "I try to not be surprised these days. Anything and everything seems to happen. Better just to take it on the chin and find out what to do next. Anyway, you've got a new friend now," Braxton gestured to where Cyrus was eating, "and he'll stick with you through thick and thin believe me.
Yes, I sometimes miss the people form back home, but they had their lives back in Azure Cove, and I have my own mission here.
Truth be told," Braxton took a bite from a roll, "I am not so well travelled as you. Spent about 21 years in Azure Cove. Only time I have spent outside has been here, and travelling to here! There was quite a funny occurrence in leaving Deepgrove. I'm sure you've heard the stories about people from Deepgrove. I'll tell you, not a word of it is true. They were some of the nicest people I have ever met. I went hunting with a few of them in return for a few hot meals. Anyway, as I was leaving, I came across a group of people, obviously tourists, coming into the city. They were practicing their non-verbal communication skills with each other, and were totally convinced that the people living in Deepgrove were some sub-evolved species of human. A gentleman who I had been speaking with there, man named Simon, decided to play up the entire 'savage' concept, and began doing all these huge body motions and guttural grunts as I left." Braxton got up and started mimicking the actions, hunching over and acting slightly-wild. "These tourists were absolutely stunned and soon began copying what they saw from Simon, trying to 'learn the language.' I swear, it was one of the most amusing spectacles I've ever seen."

Lillian began to chuckle. "Ah, yes, I'd forgotten that most people see the people there through barbarian-coloured goggles. It was amusing when helping Miri - uh, that's the bookkeeper I was just telling you about - do some transcriptions of old texts. Half of them were completely contrary to the other half. And not just about there, too. The thing I got whacked into my noggin most from helping her was that half of humanity's recorded history is completely bonkers, and the other half isn't entirely right either." She gives a wide grin at this. "Lesson learned, don't entirely believe anything you haven't seen with your own peepers... although, my brother says I'm still a bit too trusting. I think he's just jealous that I have the prettier writing, so I got chosen for copying."

Braxton, having finished eating, leaned back and used his arms to prop himself up so he could gaze at the sky.
"Aye. Unfortunately people like to make themselves look virtuous even if they have been vile. Every story has at least two sides, buy most people would rather you heard theirs.
Unfortunately I haven't had as much of a chance to do much reading growing up. My mother ensured I knew how to read and write, but there were always more pressing matters.
Tell me more about your brother though, he seems to be an interesting fellow."

"Well... he is the greatest brother one could have. But don'tcha go around letting him know I said that," she said warningly, although there was a glimmer in her eye. "He'll let it go to his head, and I'll never hear the end of it. He doesn't let me forget that he's slightly older. We're twins!" She pouts a little, then sighs. "I'll always be his little sister, I guess. But, yeah, I could never ask for someone better. He's always going out of his way to help people, and he isn't shy about giving me a metaphorical swift kick to the rear end if I mess around too much... I think he enjoys that a little too much, though. But you know how siblings are, right?" she asks, grinning again.

Braxton smiled sadly, "I wouldn't know really. I was the only child in my family, though I guess I became a bit of a big brother to a few people in the city..." His mind trailed off for a second. It was an odd though. Growing up, he guessed that his group of friends were a sort of family to him. He knew that they trusted each other, but he never really stopped to think about their dynamic. That being said, he probably was a big brother figure to them.
"Your brother is lucky to have you as a sister though, going to such lengths to find him. I am sure he will be elated when you are reunited.... I am sorry that you are having to go through this."

"Yeah, me too..." Her happy demeanour falls for a moment. "At least it's not too far off from what we were doing together. I already mentioned that we were trying to find the gods, or where they went. At this point, it's just changed to finding Lucas. That should be easier, right...?" Her voice trails off.

Braxton acted without thinking. He wasn't quite used to this sort of thing. He wrapped his arms around the blue haired woman and pulled her close. "Everything is going to be fine. Easy or hard, you'll find Lucas, and I'll find him myself if I need to. It might not happen today and it might not happen tomorrow, but you will find him. Hey, we could always go back to that LOVELY woman we met today." The sarcasm was so heavy in his voice that it was almost visibly dripping from his mouth them he mentioned the green haired woman.
Upon saying that though, he thought. Perhaps she knew something about his father. She seemed to have fingers in many pies, she might know some obscure bit of history.
No. No. No.
He would do anything before it came to dealing with that woman again.
Braxton slightly awkwardly released Lillian, suddenly realising what he had done,
"I'm... I'm sorry I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable."

Lillian seems surprised for a moment, before returning the embrace. "T-thanks. I needed something like that," she says, blushing.
After a little bit of awkward silence, she continues "Ugh, I'd rather not have to go anywhere near that hag again. ...she gives me the creeps."

Braxton blushed in return. "I am sorry, I've never really been good at that kind of thing.
Do not concern yourself. I have no intention of interacting with her again. I filly intend on doing whatever it is that I can to minimise the level of service that I owe her under our agreement to begin with."
Braxton sighed,
"You know that tomorrow we will likely have to move against the scum from yesterday? Remember that you are free to stay behind. If you do still want to come, I just want to warn you that it is dangerous".

"N-nah, ain't your fault. I get a little emotional sometimes."
"And...yeah. I know we've got to do what we've got to do. I may not be all systems go on it, but I..I don't want you to have to do something I wouldn't do myself. I don't want anyone to have to do that."

Braxton placed his hand over hers and gave it a little squeeze.
"Emotions are not a bad thing. You are emotional because you care, and that passion is your greatest strength.
I am willing to fight them because they represent all things terrible in mankind. I am more than prepared to fight them, but just because I am willing to do that does not mean that you should. If you really feel strongly about not wanting to fight, please do not put yourself in danger for no reason. I would rather not see you get hurt.
Braxton took a deep breath. His heart was beating hard. He wasn't sure why, but he really did not want Lillian to put herself in danger if she wasn't prepared to fight. It did not reflect on her at all. She had only just gotten her first pokemon, and she had never trained doing anything else. This was going to be dangerous, and it would be such a waste if she was to throw herself at this sort of situation before she reached her true potential.

"Hey, that's sweet of you, really," she says, smiling a little, "but it's something that I'd not stop beating myself up for if someone went in my stead. 'Specially if something happened."
"Besides," she continues, with more of a joking tone, "You don't know what my pendant looks like. That means I have to come."

That is fair enough I guess, Braxton smiled, must make sure you don't get in my way." Braxton dropped a joking wink her way. He stood up and started walking around the rooftop garden. Anyway, it's not really sweet of me. It's what anybody would do in my situation, or I would hope so. You need help, I offer to help. It's just the way it should be." Braxton stopped and looked out over the city to see what he could see. anything of interest to be seen from this vantage?

Braxton sees... BUILDINGS!

"You'd think that," she says, going up and putting her arm around him, "but it doesn't always seem to work that way..."He does indeed see buildings!
And a lack of people! Really, where are they all? (Besides protesting. And probably staying inside.)
Aaaand... a bright, clear, summer sky! Which is still quite hot. Really hot, even.

Braxton sighed, "It is really unfortunate. You would hope basic decency would prevail but it never seems to does it.
Where do you think everybody has gone. I know that the way things are, people don't necessarily want to be celebrating or socialising, but I've scarcely seen anybody here since I've arrived. Surely people still have lives to tend to?

"You've been here a mite longer than I have," she reminds him, "so you probably know more than I do. But there were a lot of people leaving when I was arriving, either moving, or "vacationing". They said they don't want to be here when the spring finally goes kaput. Really, I don't blame them. I've heard the stories of what this place used to look like."

Braxton frowned, "I suppose... I just don't understand how they would be able to leave their entire lives behind, and if the situation was so bad, why have some people stayed?"
Braxton sat in silence for a while longer as he watched the sun dip closer to the horizon. "Well Lillian, I think I will retire. I need to do a quick errand, then I am going to turn in early. I want to be up as early as I can manage in order to get a head start on the day tomorrow. Shall I see you at breakfast?"
Braxton went down to his living quarters and fetched the dirty clothes from the day. "Right Blaire, let's head back up."
On the roof once more, Braxton took his clothes and brought them up against a wall. "Ready?"
"Marsh!" Blaire release a jet of earth towards the clothes that Braxton held out. Braxton did his best to avoid taking the brunt of the hit, and he rubbed the mud and the grit into every crevice of his clothing, allowing it to absorb the bacteria and the sweat.
"Looks good, time for a rinse." Blaire switched to a water gun. Braxton scrubbed out all the grit from his clothes and cleaned off any mud that got on him. He had learned this little trick a while back. He didn't own many clothes, and he didn't exactly have readily available washing facilities. He remembered seeing people smearing mud on dirty clothes and rinsing them in the Cove back home, and he figured the same principle would apply.
Didn't work so well on whites though.
Braxton thanked Blaire and retired to his room to sleep for the night.

"I think it's because some people don't have enough hope... and others have too much."
"Right as rain, I'll see you at breakfast tomorrow," she says, smiling, and walking towards the far side of the roof.. "I'm just going to watch the sun go down. I love watching all the different colours."
In the morning, bright-ish and early, Braxton wakes up, and heads down for breakfast. Not long after, Lillian comes down from the roof, yawning, Cyrus on her head. "Well, having this little guy out seemed fine, made it a cinch to get to sleep... But I didn't realize he came with a free built-in alarm clock. Set to the sunrise. At least it was nice...but I think I'd rather have had the sleep..."

Braxton woke up bright and early. He went to feel the clothes he had left out by the window the previous night. Still wet. Hopefully by tonight they'll have dried slightly.
Going downstairs, he gathered himself a few bits and bobs for breakfast--mostly carb-loaded items. He was planning on a busy day.
Beginning eating with Blaire and Ruairidh, Braxton first noticed Lillian descending the stairs, and he smiled. "Good morning! Come join me over here."
Braxton had been trying to think of a plan through the night, but he wanted to avoid being overheard in case of nearby Snakebite informants.
