Hatui had been quiet ever since they had entered this "forest". It was a surreal experience and in taking in all in, he mostly let the others of the group decide what to do. He had known nothing like this back home, and wondered if anything anywhere else was even like it at all. He'd lived a sheltered life to be sure, but this was why he was trying to change that. He wanted to see the world, and finally getting to experience it had put him in an almost trance-like state of wonder. It was only once they reached three potential pathways, leading...somewhere... that he snapped out of it and realized he needed to kick back into survival mode. There were three gloomy looking tunnels of vegetation ahead and the group had stopped advancing, probably uncertain which way to go. The Azurill had stopped leading now, but they had a couple of choices.
"Well," Hatui said, finally speaking for the first time in a while, "It looks like we have a couple of options if we want to go this way. I think we've skirted around where our little friend was trying to go though. It's about that direction he was heading if I had to guess." He pointed in the direction of the giant pillar that had just now come into view. Having learned how to navigate the seas by boat on his own, Hatui was quite familiar with wayfinding and had a good sense of direction. Even still, it probably didn't hurt to gain their bearings. "Why don't we get a sense of direction first?" He turned to his Pokemon. "Moai, which way is north?" He turned back to the group while Moai did his thing. "I figure if you guys still want to follow the Azurill's lead, we can get an idea of how to get back here. Or if we continue forward, then hopefully we won't be forced to double back and get lost. In either case, I'm not sure which way would technically lead us out of this portion of the cave."

Moai rotates his body, voicing his assent in a deep baritone rumble. Like a compass needle, his rocky red nose points to the group's right, a ninety degree angle from the direction of the massive glowing pillar. The party was still on the eastern side of the cavern. Their trek to enter The Wilds would generally require them to travel west. Though it was impossible for them to know if there would be an exit to the cavern in that direction, the forest tunnels, and the pillar were both that way.

"Alright, little guy," Zee said, approaching the three directions once Moai had finished his assessment of direction. "Got any idea which way to go?" She carried the Pokemon to each of the three tunnels, afraid that if she put him down, he might run off. When Hatui suggested they might want to know how to get back, however, she decided to set the Azurill down so he could get a better look.
"If this one doesn't make any gesture, which direction do you think we should go?" Zee asked over her shoulder. "Knowing how to get back is a good idea, Hatui. I can also make a map of where we are in my sketchbook," she suggested. "Here. Let's settle for a moment so I can sketch us a map." She walked over and patted Moai on the head. "With your help, I can add a nice compass rose. A compass nose, one might say!" Not caring if the others cringed at her terrible joke, she drew out a map for them while the Azurill inspected the passages.

The Azurill looked back and forth between Zee and the passageways before hoping over to the left-most one. He peered into the darkness for a moment, before moving to the centre tunnel and repeating the action. It was the same for the third, before the little blue Pokemon returned to Zee, lowering it's head sadly. The little round rodent actually started tearing up, crushed at being unable to help its new friends.

Baraz watched as the others tried to coerce the tiny Azurill to figure out what to do. He rolled his eyes as the Tiny creature seemed to be unable to figure out the best path, he really wasn't sure what they were expecting. The tiny thing had been taking them somewhere specific earlier, it might have never been here before. It didn't even know what they were looking for. Begrudgingly he admitted to himself that the others were doing the best with what they had, he would most likely get eaten alive out here if they weren't here so it really wasn't his place to judge. With a shrug he strolled toward the leftmost cavern.
"Well, there's no use sitting here hoping that we'll magically figure out the way to go. We'll just have to explore them and find where they go."

As you step through the archway of the left path, you are suddenly able to see the tunnel ahead of you where before their was only darkness. Additionally, as this happens, you feel yourself pass through some kind of thin film in the air, almost imperceptible.
At the end of the tunnel is another clearing. It is the exact size and shape as the one you just left, with the same view of the crystal pillar in the distance. Rather than containing your companions however, this clearing holds a group of three pinkish mushroom Pokemon, sitting in a triangle roughly eight feet on a side, in the centre.
The rest of the group sees Baraz walk decisively to the entrance to the tunnel, and then instantaneously wink out of existence into the darkness.

As Hatui was thanking Moai for showing them the way north, Baraz decided to take a more direct approach and went towards the leftmost tunnel. Hatui couldn't quite believe his eyes when the man basically blinked out of existence and disappeared. "Guys!" Hatui called out, uncertain if they had been paying attention. "Did you see that!?" His first instinct was to rush toward the tunnel to try and help Baraz if he was in trouble. He stopped himself halfway there, though, realizing it might require a bit more caution. "Moai, stay right behind me," he said as he approached the tunnel with trepidation. He couldn't see anything on the other side: the tunnel was just too dark no matter how close he got. He walked right up to the archway, but didn't pass through the threshold. "He's gone!" He called back to the others. "What do we do?" He had no experience with this sort of thing and was very uncertain just what was going on. He could only hope that their companion was somewhere and was ok, but where would Hatui end up if he passed through as well?

When Baraz disappeared, Mezzo smiled. There was a catch. Of course there was a catch. The tunnels all seemed to be going to the same place, but that would have been too easy. He wasn't sure what the rules to this game was, but it was clear that the forest had some tricks up its sleeve. Maybe there was a way that he could figure out where these tunnels went, or if they would always go to the same place.

There is obviously a magical barrier over the entrance of the tunnels. It seems to have two effects. The first, is illusion magic, which is what is stopping you from seeing where the tunnel leads. The second is something more complex though. Your investigation fails to tell you exactly what it does, but you are able to ascertain that it is not likely dangerous. Also, this enchantment seems to differ somewhat between the three tunnels. You'll need further examples of the magic, or perhaps help, to be able to fully grasp its function.

That was an odd experience, in the back of his mind he wondered what had created these doorways. Did Pokemon have that sort of power? What were these things doing here? Meditating? Absorbing... Nutrients? Whatever mushrooms did? Baraz knew he was pretty useless when it came to this mystical mumbo-jumbo, he decided it was better if he just stuck to what he knew. He wasn't sure he wanted to get into a fight if these things were hostile, maybe they didn't care or could be convinced to help him. He gave the room a good scan before taking a step further inside, with Fritz by his side. He wasn't sure if these things could understand him but it was worth a try. Turning up the schmaltz he addressed the trio. "Why hello there, would any of you perchance be willing to help me? Or at least be able to direct me to that pillar over there?"Baraz's Perception WMTZpu872d6

Baraz is fairly distracted by his musings on what mushrooms may or may not be capable of, but he is able to notice that across this second clearing is another set of three tunnels leading further into the forest. Additionally, laying on the soil in the centre of the triangle of Pokemon, is an oblong, waxy grey rock.
At Baraz's words, one of the mushroom Pokemon swivels to face Baraz, it's face curious. The other two remain passive, and in place, but the first approaches the merchant looking up at him. Suddenly, a feeling of weakness fills the man's body, as a swarm of glowing pink orbs flow from him to the Pokemon. The mushroom smiles contentedly with its eyes after the transfer completes.

Baraz grunted as his strength was drained. This felt rather strange, the sudden weakness flooding through him. Tilting his head he gave the strange Pokemon a sidelong look. This wasn't overly hostile he supposed, but at the same time, it was a rather odd way of saying hello if it wasn't going to attack. Bending down he got closer to its eye level he tried to coax it.
"That feels... Strange little one. Does this mean you're willing to try and help?"

Perhaps in response to Baraz's question, the first Morelull begins to glow. It appears to be a light similar to that the crystal formations all around give off. This draws the attention of the two remaining mushrooms, who abandon their places on the ground, and join the first, crowding around Baraz. They look up at him questioningly.

Seeing Mezzo analyzing the situation made Hatui also stop and think. It was always best to analyze the situation, true, but Hatui had always been one for action. Thus he decided to wrack his memory to see if he could recall anything arcane in his peoples myths and legends that might relate to this situation. Hatui inspects each of the tunnels in much the same way Mezzo did, thinking back and comparing the magical field he finds with anything he's familiar with from his past. With just those observations, it's impossible to figure out quite what is going on, but by combining what he's noticed with Mezzo's conclusions, the two are able puzzle out a little more from the barrier. The secondary effect seems to be in some kind of flux. It's a very powerful enchantment, that much is obvious, but it doesn't seem to have a set effect. That is, until someone passes through it. The barrier over the tunnel Baraz entered has become inert. It seems that when he went down the tunnel, it was triggered, and is now static.
There is still a subtle difference between the tunnels that you can't quite identify.

Still in his crouching position, Baraz wondered at this. They still didn't seem overly hostile, maybe he could just... Reaching out he gently patted the glowing creature on one of the illuminated mushroom caps before continuing.
"I suppose this means that you can't understand me then? Or are just more excited to see something new here?"
He still wasn't quite sure what to make of all this as he stood, the thought crossed his mind that these might be interesting to catch. If they weren't going to show him the way out maybe he could get one of them to stay in a Pokeball. Pulling one out he kept an eye on the tiny fungi.
"Well, either way, it doesn't matter. Sticking around here must be pretty boring, why not come with me and see the world?"
With that, he took the Pokeball and lightly bonked the glowing mushroom with it.

The Morelull is sucked into the Pokeball with no trouble. Its friends however look aghast at whatever was just done to it. They hop backwards, away from Baraz, and narrow their eyes, before suddenly the life is being drained from him, much more violently than before.

As soon as he had captured the first one the others suddenly reacted hostilely, in the back of his mind he really kind of knew he should have expected this. Whatever, time to back peddle and handle this. Cool and calm that was the way. Before he could really continue that thought he started to panic, there weren't any others here to back him up. What was keeping them? "FRITZ!! GET THEM!" He called out with a strangled gasp, pulling out his whip he tried to incapacitate one of them. Perhaps surprised by the sudden command to battle, Fritz is unable to spin up in time to land an attack on the Morelull. Baraz though, despite being somewhat equally surprised, manages to lull the Pokemon to sleep, if only barely in his panicked state.
The mushroom on the left remains plopped on its behind, while the one on the right, perhaps panicking a bit itself now, releases a bright flash of light, hoping to blind the gear Pokemon and its trainer.
For simplicity's sake, this combat will just be Baraz & Fritz > Mushrooms > Repeat, for initiative, unless the rest of the party joins. Morelull L fails its sleep check!
