1:07PM, Day 1, January 1090
After taking a sensible lunch together and making sure they have everything needed ready with them, the Keldeo duo of Stella and Finn headed for the east entrance of the city. The sky looked clear for the day. Aside from a faint black at the very far north, it was all bright and blue. Raining would be unlikely. The road was almost empty, with only a few people of working age going back to their job and a few older pedestrians. The two did not spot any of their classmates along the way either.
Going through the tree-like gate, the view was empty of any tall plant. Aside from the paved road, nothing was of interest among the field of green. As you two would know, the government have kept the city's surrounding area cleared at all time as to prevent wild Pokemon from stumbling into the city's area and one way to do that was to seperate the city from their living habitat. That rule did not change even to a very green city like Dinsifora. Maybe it was more important here than anywhere else, wild Pokemon might not be able to know the difference.
After a few minutes of rather fast walking with the very efficient Stella taking the lead, the two of you eventually saw tall grass and trees and more and more of them. Then, there was a signpost with a huge "!" on the side of the road. The message was long:

Finn has had a wonderful day thus far. He's gotten to have lunch with his favorite person in the world, he's gotten to get to know his new favorite pokemon on the planet, ducklett, a little better today, and now he got to go out on his first ever big boy adventure all by himself! . . . with his friend . . . and both their pokemon . . . look, it's a step forward. Upon he noticed the sign on the side of the road, Finn looked over to Stella.
"Hey Stella. Do you have any cleanse tags? Or are we going to be going on a guard shift system? If so, I'm more than happy to let you take the first shift!"

Stella had been having a pretty nominal day thus far, Finn had been less annoying than usual, his focus on his new partner, and she had to admit she was the same way, having focused on training Zakarashi and learning what she could about the Croagunk. However, all good days come to an end at some point...
Stella let out a loud sigh at the question, the main point of heading out this way was to catch Pokemon. She guessed she had to make that clear to him...again. "We're heading out this way to catch Pokemon, that is my goal at least, as for you, well....do you even have poke-balls? Oh, and before that, buy cleanse tags with what money? I'm pretty sure we're both just starting out, unless you have some secret cash stash I do not know about?"
She noted that she had become quite more casual with him than most people, it's funny how that worked. She doesn't even really remember when he started hanging around her, on the other hand though, she couldn't imagine her day without him there to annoy her. It would probably be...quite dull.

Finn chuckled at Stella's comment. He loved her abrasive personality. Showed she really cared about him~
"I have enough pokeballs, so don't worry about that! And if we don't have cleanse tags, then I guess we're just going to have to be doing the guard shift idea. I'm faithful you'll be able to protect me! So if catching pokemon is our goal, why don't we just get started huh?"
Finn doesn't give her a chance, and heads right into the tall grass, pulling ducklett out of her ball to join him. He frolics around until he happens to find some trace of a wild pokemon.

Stella sighed to herself before following after Finn, she did pop out Zakarashi just so he knew where they started. She was confident that they were going to have to rely on Zakarashi to get back. "Try and stay close Zakarashi, we're hunting in this place and I need you to watch our backs" She stared him in the eyes for one moment before walking back after Finn.
...With how loud he was, she'd normally worry about the Pokemon being spooked by his loudness...but they were after ghosts, so it should be fine. Stella would keep telling herself this until they actually ran into something.

2:00PM, Day 1, January 1090
The Croagunk was so ready to go forth into the wild. He got himself ready, warming up his limbs and neck and...he was requested to stay with his Lord, which he obliged without a second thought. He would suggest himself to scout ahead but he has no way to communicate with his Lord. So, the Frog Pokemon kept himself close to the Lord while scanning around for possible threats the whole time they were walking into the forest.
The Ducklett, was equally quiet. She did have a little introduction and training with her trainer just now but that was not enough time for this shy little Water Pokemon to get warmed up to her trainer. This was not just a regular Pokemon, but one that did not have the most cheerful childhood in the barn. Despite that she was trained to obey, and she has no reason not to for now, she would not trust anyone so easily. As Finn was the only one she knew a tiny bit of, she stayed close to him the whole time, kind of replicating what the Croagunk was doing.
The two pairs went down the tall grass and eventually into the woods. It did not take more than ten and so minutes of walk to be completely away from the road and the cleared area. The whole place was quiet from the beginning, too quiet. There was not even buzzing from little bugs or sounds of bird Pokemon from high above the sky. It was dead silence and the only sounds were what they made with their steps through the woods. The two trainers continued to go deeper into the place, knowing that their best chance of finding any sign of Pokemon would be deeper and deeper. The part closer to town was empty and it made total sense. The trees got thicker over their path. It also got dimmer than before, with the trees outgrowing leaves shielding the sunlight from piercing through them. All these did not concern any of them for now, though what might be was the complete lack of lead to any Pokemon...or even living things, aside from the blooming plant life surrounding them, staring quietly at the brave visitors entering their unwelcoming home.
They were an hour into the forest and now they stood at a suprisingly open space. A few dead and abandoned tree trumps laid spreading around the open circle, allowing them to take a rest if they want to. Now that they were deeper into the forest, tracking and scanning the surrounding might actually yield them something, at least that's what anyone would hope.

Stella tried to keep Finn on track, she really did, but it was certainly a trial trying to keep him there. Now that they had finally made some distance, she could give him a longer leash...so to speak. She started trying to examine the area. She wasn't adept at it by any mean, but she had an idea of how to track down things...though how useful would footprints be for ghost? Despite her apprehension, she began looking for tracks and other signs of life. Which left Finn to his own devices. Perception: 7 Survival: 10

Finn could hear Stella saying stuff behind him, but didn't pay her much mind. Right now was all about bonding with his new bestest friend in the whole wide world, the black ducklett. He made sure to keep his strides small enough for her too keep up by his side, and kept a hearty grin on the whole time, certain she was having just as much fun as he was. But he also made sure to keep an eye out for tracks and signs of other pokemon in the area

2:15PM, Day 1, January 1090
The two trainers did not need any word to communicate. Without thinking much of the direction as of now, the two just separated and looked around the surrounding for any clue of life. Following her heart, Stella walked to the northeast part of the circle, checking the ground and trees primarily. Zakarashi stuck to Stella like a glue, per his instruction. As he has no other command to follow, he paid full attention to the surrounding as he circled around a self-assigned zone around his Lord.
Maybe her apprehension was right, or maybe she did not have the best tracking skill in the world, Stella found absolutely no sign of traceable track anywhere nor any scratch mark, burnt mark, leftover food, feces or anything else. It was as if the forest has no wildlife at all, just the trees and them. When Stella was trying to think how to search deeper, Zakarashi suddenly leapt fast to her right and shot a few poison stings toward the nearby trees. The Croagunk charged forward for two steps, wanting to give pursuit but quickly recalled his command and bounced himself back to Stella's side.
Did the little shinobi see something? Stella scanned at the direction and saw absolutely nothing out of ordinary. It was just the same things they were seeing in the past hours -- trees and bushes. Stella did not feel anything different either, maybe she would felt being watched if something was indeed following them, but no, she felt nothing. All that did not stop Zakarashi from locking his sight on that direction for now. The Pokemon was very thorough with his scan, checking high up the tree as well as the ground level.
On the southwest part of the circle, Finn was doing the same thing as his fellow trainer over the period of time. He flipped through the the leaves on the ground, scanning the nearby bushes and trees for any sign of life. The black Ducklett continued to stick around her owner but she did not necessarily know what they were doing here. For now, she just kept looking at what's her owner was doing and let him be by staying quiet. Though she has been wondering about something. There was...the smell of water around her owner for some reason? She has never met a human being with that kind of odor. Even more surprising to her, that odor was quite soothing, like a warm pond of water, but was it really coming from him? Why? Naive and curious, the little Ducklett spent her time smelling around Finn to find out the source of the smell, maybe it was a bottle or something. In Finn's perspective, it was as if the Ducklett was trying to get a scent out of him for some reason. It's not like he was asking the Pokemon to track his missing item in the forest.
Not like he cared, as he decided his effort was best used to find any wild Pokemon. Scanning the open circle part of the forest yielded him the same as their one hour walk -- absolutely nothing. But unlike Stella, Finn's scan took him closer and closer until he was at the border between the open circle and the trees. Nothing happened on this side of the field, yet. Finn decided to check on the trees now that he found no sign of anything from the ground. It was here that he finally found something. A clue at best, but still, something. Some of the trees appeared to be thinner than the others, especially their branches. There were also a couple of broken branches on the ground, but only around some of the thinner trees. All these were not found on the other trees that were healthily grown until this point.

Finn took a moment to observe some of the branches as see exactly how they were broken. His biggest concerned were if the breaks were clean cuts. He knew that he'd want to get a better look at the top of the trees to get a better understanding of what's happening. Before he attempted to climb a tree, he knelt down to his new companion and gave her a big cheeky grin
"Hey there little Ducklett! I'm going up there to see if I can find any signs of other pokemon. These trees are kind of suspicious. Would you mind flying up there with me and watching my back? I'd feel way more comfortable knowing you were up there too!"
With that, he stood back up, and attempted to climb the tree

2:25PM, Day 1, January 1090
Stella was not satisfy with her unfruitful scan on the ground and that alone was enough to keep her checking the surrounding area once again. This time she was more careful and thorough with her search...but that did not mean she was finding anything more than just now. The lack of any finding was a strong hint that nothing really traveled to here, at least not recently, but how was that possible? Could everyone be avoiding this open space for some reason? Why would they do that? Why was this open space an open space in the forest? She has no answer to all that.
As if that was not enough to make her restless, as she really hated non-productive things, she felt Zakarashi was being more anxious than ever around her. She devoted her full attention on checking around though so she could only feel the anxiousness around her and perhaps a little peak of a shadow going around her restlessly.
It took some time but finally Zakarashi decided to act. The Pokemon really wanted to stick with his command but he just could not keep his desire within himself. So, the Croagunk poked his Lord gently in the shoulder(easily reached as Stella was crouching) with his non-poisonous part and pointed at the trees on the direction he attacked minutes ago. This was your first day together so Stella could not grasp his exact meaning. The only thing she was certain was how much Zakarashi wanted to check the area, preferably with Stella together(?) as the Croagunk tried a slight pull on her sleeve.
On the other side, Finn was having better results than Stella. He has actual discovery and has the right tools to tackle the situations. The Ducklett continued to sniff around when Finn asked her. Finn turned around to find the Ducklett being ridiculously close to his butt...for some reason. That did not matter. The Ducklett listened closely and quacked happily at the request. Finally, she has something to do and hopefully she could at least help out her new owner just so she could...be useful. That was important to the little Ducklett with confidence issue.
The Ducklett, however, did not consider Finn having to climb to the tree. The Pokemon flew up to the tree easily and landed gently on one of the branches. She looked down on the climbing Finn, quietly waiting for her owner to come up. Apparently, she was more interested in that than scanning the surrounding. That did not matter, at least not this time. The surrounding was quiet as Finn worked his way up the tree with relative ease. Flexibility and using his limbs were quite the strong suit of Finn with all his dancing experience. He could even pull off gymnastic moves if needed. The Ducklett finally moved on with her objective now that Finn was up on the tree. She looked around and the surrounding was clear so, it was more waiting on her part. Finn though, got busy right away, looking all parts of the tree for any clue.
Bingo! He did indeed found something rather quickly. There were faint scratch marks on the tree trunk among other signs of Pokemon traveling out here. Maybe that was part of why the ground gave nothing. Some of the forest resident did not travel on the ground. Checking the claw mark thoroughly, whatever Pokemon who left those have three claws. Finn was not expert enough to directly identify the Pokemon species but hey, "having claw" was as good a clue as anything.
That was not everything of his search. While walking around on the branches to investigate the height area he was on, he found that some branches were much thinner than the others for no known reasons. It was as if the tree intentionally cut off nutrients on them, which would be impossible for a tree to do, so it must be something else. Finn almost fell off once when he stepped a little over a weak branch but he was agile enough to go backward in time. The tree branch did fall off and looked similar to the other branches he found below. It was a further sign of Pokemon having traveled over these trees. While Finn was busy with the part two of his investigation, his Ducklett kept herself around but did not get too closed to Finn now that they were above. It was quite a boring task to just stand guard on top here and the Pokemon spent her time just looking around for anything interesting -- none so far.

Finn took a minute to look over the claw marks, and then called for his Ducklett to come over to him
"Hey! Ducklett! Could you come over her a second please and thank you? I was wondering if you knew anything about these marks, or maybe where the creature who left them would be heading off too"

Stella gives out a slight sigh, Zakarashi was insistent. She didn't like him being insistent, but he probably had a reason to be. She would just have to trust Finn to take care of himself for the moment. She scratched a nearby tree, giving it a mark so she could easily recognize it later, before turning to Zakarashi. "Very well then, show me what you see, Zakarashi" He recieved a firm voice, a silent warning it better be something, not just him dragging her around for nothing. With that understood, she let the frog lead the way. Zakarashi was free to lead his master where he pleased.

2:30PM, Day 1, January 1090
Finn could not think of anything that would help him, not even after going through his mind on every possible thing he could recall from his years of learning in the academy. Fair to say, Pokemon education and wildlife studies have not bee his best subjects, nor do his school put a lot of emphasis on them.
He then called the Ducklett, hoping that the Pokemon could give him something. The Ducklett was still looking around and finding nothing until she was called. She quacked happily as she flew the little distance to get to her owner by the tree bark. The Ducklett was not so sure about this command. She has only been in her ranch most of the time and she was the lonely outsiders among the Pokemon there. Even if her ranch has a Pokemon that would have this kind of claws, she probably did not know either. She looked at it and turned to shake its head.
The Pokemon did not give up right then. She has been smelling things today so why not try that? She tried to pick up the scent from around the claw mark and then started to smell around the tree. After that, she flew down to smell the surrounding ground around the tree for the next few minutes. As much as she wanted to contribute, she was not a canine nor a good tracker, and she could not pick up anything. Flying back up to Finn, she shook her head following a low tone quack, hoping that she would not get scolded for this.
On the other side of the forest, Stella was dragged along by Zakarashi away from the open area and into the forest once again. Stella did make demand to see something but it was an area no different from those they have walked past in the past hour. The only difference Stella could see was the extra branches on the ground. Zakarashi was dead set on how he has seen something though. He tried to explain with body language but did not think of a way to do so, so he put up an open palm, maybe telling Stella to wait here as he tried to find a way up the tree. He found a smaller tree by the side and started climbing, ninja style.
Meanwhile, Stella tried to see if she could get some tracking done on this area. She did notice the extra amount of branches around the ground and some broken branches from the tree. Those were definitely unusual. As she tried to investigate further, she felt...something. Not far from her, there was a...surprisingly large branch of some kind, and it looked differently from other branches. It was even well-shaped. The strange feeling got stronger the closer Stella was to the branch. It was...calling her? Should she pick it up, or touch it?

When the Ducklett couldn't find anything, Finn could tell that the poor creature was a little worried of letting him down. Finn chuckled to himself a bit. It was kind of cute how worried the poor creature was. He gently patted her head to help calm her down a bit.
"Hey, it's all right, it's not a big deal. We don't need to find this creature all that badly anyways. I really appreciate you still trying though, you're pretty awesome!"
Finn then drops down from the tree and heads back over to Stella
"HEEEY! STELLA!!! I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING OVER HERE!! WHAT ABOUT YOU?!"

Stella decided to give into the temptation. Maybe it was her instincts calling out to her that what she wanted was right in front of her? Just as she was about to touch it, she heard Finn's shout from above. She shot a fierce glare in that direction, stopping herself just short of touching it.
After glaring for a moment, she grasped the branch. She wasn't dignifying Finn with an answer without some results. Hopefully this would be the results needed.

The Ducklett responded with some cheerful quacks and some light flapping of her wings. She was certainly glad that her new owner was not as harsh as others she has met in the past, Pokemon or human. It might just be too early to tell but she quite liked her current situation so far. Without much to do, Finn climbed down the tree from where he came up from and the trip down was nothing special, even less dangerous than the trip up. The Ducklett flew down by her owner's side and followed him to Stella. And that was when Stella decided to touch the mysterious branch. Finn's calling slowed that for a few seconds but did not stop it. Stella blinks for a moment, processing what to do. She slowly let's go of the branch, deciding she should go back to the marked tree. "Come along!" She gives the request sharply as she starts walking over to the tree she needs to be at to know which way to go. After a moment of being focused on her goal, she realizes she should probably respond in some fashion.
"I am taking a route, Follow me if you wish, Finn" She barely shouts, only raising her voice enough to give it the oomph it needs to reach Finn's ears. She made sure to check which way she needed to head, before firmly setting forth on the path she knows is there. This was getting interesting, and she wanted to know what was out there.

”Yay! Is it a super dangerous route with conflict for us to overcome?!
Finn gleefully skips behind Stella, making sure that Ducklett was still nearby, and continues down the route
