"That's what I'm trying to fix," Eliza says to Nero, "The best way to make things less awkward is to talk. Usually, at least. But people need to open up to do so. Gotta get to know each other."
"Geez, that doesn't sound like much of a life," she continues, replying to Teresa's answer "Having everything related to one thing, for your entire life? I feel like I'd die of boredom. Well, good thing you're in the League now, so you can have a chance to get out and live a little."
Teresa's question throws her a little bit, after the other questions being so simple. "Well," she responds, "I understand wanting to make sure that your children don't have any illnesses, or genetic defects, or anything like that. That's what technology's there for, after all. To raise people up who would otherwise be disadvantaged. But... my problem is when it's used to try and raise people who are inherently above anyone else. The purpose of genetic meddling - or, well, anything really - should be to fix problems that put you below the average person. Not put them above. Not unless everyone gets it, like, say, the 'jacks."
Thinking, she next asks, "Hmmm... Oh, if you could visit any place in the world, where would you go?"

Nero can't help but mentally admit to himself that he agreed with Eliza, to an extent. Teresa seemed a tough one to get to engage with anything outside of her work. He supposed that it was possible that she actually had no life outside of work, and if that was the case, he felt quite sorry for the poor girl, but he found that hard to believe. Then again, he had grown up with a workaholic mother, and their personalities were similar... Still, it was a bit difficult to believe that someone so young had already given up their life so completely to a corporation that the only things that mattered to them in life were work. He supposed that she was the corp sponsored one of this merry little band though, so that increased the likelihood of that scenario significantly.
"I find it hard to believe that you do absolutely nothing outside of work, even if it's just reading. Even if you read academic books tangentially related to your field and not fiction, I'd still call it a hobby, since there's no direct work application."
At Teresa's rather sudden shift towards the serious, Nero's brows furrow in thought as he tries to figure out how to best word his answer, grateful that Eliza jumps in to speak so immediately. He sighed lightly, pinching his brow and closing his eyes for an extended moment before speaking. "I'm not sure I consider myself qualified enough to have an opinion yet, quite honestly. I don't have enough experience with designer children, haven't done any research, and don't know any, so that rather prevents me from making any sort of informed judgments. I will say that I think with a lot of aspects with altering the body, the topic should be approached with a lot more caution than most corporations exercise? I've seen a lot of Galactic cybernetics research projects where I'm from, and I think there's a lot of moral questions that people tend to ignore in favor of the pursuit of advancement. The "playing God" argument always gets tiresome in these sorts of topics, but it's a valid concern. So I guess my answer is that I approach the concept with caution? As for the actual children produced, I don't see any reason why I should treat them any differently than anyone else. Even if I hated the practice, which I don't, it's not the child's fault that they're alive."
As Eliza draws the conversation back towards mood whiplash, Nero hesitates to respond, although he has an answer, looking at Teresa to make sure she didn't have anything more to say about the previous topic. In his experience, people don't ask questions like that out of the blue for no reason.

Teresa wasn't exactly happy with their answers, but she wasn't disappointed either. They both seemed to have no bias towards the result of it, at the very least. Well, Eliza might, but it was easy enough to figure that out with a simple statement. "Alola, the species variation there is quite lovely. Now as for why I brought up such a serious topic, I am a Designer Child."
That statement should certainly get her point across. She took in the two's expression at her revelation, to see how they felt. She brought out Variable's pokeball, and released him onto her lap. She gave the little guy a few pats on the head as she wrapped up her point. "And Variable here is also a Designer Child, though we use the term Designer Pokemon to prevent confusion on the matter." She proceeded to forfeit her question for now, knowing that the other two probably had either plenty, or nothing to say to her now.

Eliza is silent for a moment, as she waits for a question. When there isn't one, after a bit of a silence, she responds, "Ah. I see. Well, as Nero says, it's not like you chose to be who you are." She does wonder, though, how far the other's parents went in 'designing'. If it was just cleaning up illnesses, maybe picking hair and eye colour... or if they were aiming for more. She doesn't really feel like delving into all of these serious topics, though. Not so soon after what had happened. She glances down at Rainbow again.
"Anyways," she regains a more chipper tone, "Since you're here, you probably have an interest in being a Trainer. What made you want to be one? Also," she adds, "Ask me two questions, so it's even. I'm not running an interrogation here, after all." She winks. "If I don't tell you anything about me, how're we going to work as a team?"

At Teresa's rather blunt statement at the nature of her origins, Nero gives a slight, noncommittal shrug, paired with a quick "Cool." The fact seemed to barely register on his radar, almost as if he didn't particularly care about it, mainly because he didn't particularly care about it. A person was a person, no need to put much stock into the details of their origin.
Without skipping a beat, he transitions his attention to Eliza. "To answer the travel question... probably Sinnoh. Seems like a place so steeped in history, always has intrigued me. I've never been outside Kalos either, so traveling abroad sounds like fun." He doesn't posit a question of his own, for now, happy to let the two girls interact and to simply wait for his turn.

The waiter had returned to the back of the café post haste with your orders and you could see the staff at the till already working the machines as you talked. After some time, a period that may have felt short or very long, depending on how invested you were in getting the food, over your conversation, the waiter returns to your table with your orders.
"One grande vanilla café latte with skim milk, a cinnamon stick, and a touch of blueberry syrup," he puts the drink in front of Teresa, "One bowl of fresh berries," a small bowl is placed before Eliza, filled with a number of small sized variants of berries ranging from Cheri to Razz. "One mocha," he placed the drink on the table. "Please wait one moment for your food," he said to Nero, going back to the counter, before returning once more. "And finally, three breakfast sandwiches selected from our most popular options. We have a Bacon and Egg Croissant, a Smoked Salmon Croissant and a Turkey Sausage Muffin. We assure you, these are reasonably priced." Three plates of delicious looking and smelling meals are placed in front of Nero. Luckily the tables are large enough to hold all of this.

Teresa gave a nod at their answers, that was fine enough with her. As long as there weren't any issues, there is no reason to continue this line of thought. Now, thinking about the new question, the answer was obvious. "I wanted to watch Variable grow, and growing inside a lab wouldn't exactly be the best way for that." She gave said Eevee a few strokes behind his ear, the little guy giving out a purr in response to her touches.
"I shall take your own question and turn it back at you, and as the added one. Do you have any goals you would like to complete alongside doing the League Challenge? For example-" She brought out the Pokedex, placing it on the table and scrolling through random entries, before finally ending on Eevee. "I want to raise and breed Pokemon, and traveling and catching my own sounds a much better experience than requesting them at HQ"

Eliza shrugs. "Really, it ended up being a spur of the moment thing that got me into it. I'd had Rainbow for a while, my parents got her for me to try and teach me some responsibility, but I never really got into training." She gives a wry smile. "But, one thing kinda ended up cascading into to another, and I decided to try it. Ended up really liking it. It requires you to think fast, and it's never the same way twice."
"And, nah, there's nothing really that I want to do yet, besides the journey itself." She gestures towards outside, a little model of Kalos briefly appearing over her outstretched hand."There's so much neat stuff out there, I just want to keep an open mind, and sample what the region has to offer. Just see what comes my way, because I'm sure things'll jump out at me when the time comes."
She turns to Nero, "So, what's the story with that?" she asks, gesturing to the shield on top of Ryke.

As soon as his food arrives, Nero's eyes widen, and he begins digging in, thoroughly enjoying every bite. The question catches him mid bite, so he holds up a finger a few moments as he finishes chewing, then speaks up. "Not actually too much of a story to it? I mentioned that my dad's a cop, I believe. When I was a kid he was mainly assigned to riots, given how many of those happen in Anistar, so I grew up sorta idolizing him. Never quite stopped as I was growing up, so when I went to Trainer School, I mostly focused on defensive, shield based fighting. Actually have some body armor in my bag that I just haven't bothered putting on yet, just to go along with that. But anyways, when I got accepted into the league, my dad got me one of the force's old riot shields as a gift, so now it's mine."
He pauses a moment, debating whether or not to ask his question, before eventually deciding to go for it, looking at Eliza. "So, Zayna mentioned Missingno. Mind sharing a bit about that?"

Well, she knew this would come up eventually. "There's not really a whole lot to share," Eliza says, shrugging, "One day, I got a weird message through my 'jack. Was a bit of back and forth, mostly questions about my life, stuff like that. In the end, he offered to give me a bit of direction, pointed me here." She gestures around to the other two, meaning the League. "As for why he took interest in me? Well... I couldn't say." Which is entirely true. Although, in this case, physiological rather than a lack of knowledge, like the saying would usually imply. It's something that still makes her stomach twist at times, when she's reminded of it. "Regardless, I expect something'll pop up sooner or later. Nobody does something like this for no reason. At the very least, though, should be interesting."
She pops a berry into her mouth and swallows, before giving Nero a bit of a smile. "Sounds like you had supportive parents, at least. Not like mine. You could probably replace mine with robots that could only say 'Stop doing that, young lady' or 'When will you ever get your life together?' and not even notice half the time," Her tone as she says that is rather wry.

Teresa decided to finally drink the concoction she had ordered, bringing to her lips and taking a small sip. It was a bit overly sweet, but that's just how her father liked it. Speaking about parents brought some memories to the front of her mind. Her parents were loving, overly so. They had basically made her so she could have what they perceived as a perfect chance for the future she wanted. She couldn't imagine them never noticing her, or giving her attention. They would look at her for even the smallest thing.
"My father works for Cephalon as well, in fact we work in the same division. My mother is a PR Agent" She took another sip at this, before finally placing down the cup. Time for another question. "How do you all feel about me taking time out of our trip to breed Pokemon? Does that sound problematic to you?"

Nero listens to Eliza's story quietly, invested enough. At the end, he adds a little comment. "I find it a bit hard to believe that you just 'stumbled' upon on a god on the net, really. As far as I know, you have to do something to get their attention, not open your favorite video to watch on loop, but," he shrugs, "what do I know?"
He digs into his second sandwich at this point, taking a brief moment to quickly swallow to respond to Teresa. "I don't mind. We're here to pursue everyone's goals, not just my own, so we can do whatever you want to do, whenever you want to do it!" He flashes a sparkling smile at her a quick second, then goes back to his food, quite absorbed.

"As long as you aren't expecting me to help," Eliza quips at Teresa, "I don't see much of a problem there. Probably." She gives a wink.
When Nero shrugs at her, she returns it. "The gods work in mysterious ways. I don't pretend to think I understand the whys of any of their stuff." Much as she'd like to. She's really curious as to what exactly's going to happen on this journey.

Teresa finished off her drink, mostly just to prevent the insinuation of rudeness to the proprietor and chef. As it seemed everything was coming to a close, she returned Variable, putting the guy back inside his ball so he could rest properly. After putting his ball away, she gave a cough to gather attention, before asking "Shall I assume that the objective is over since no one has asked another question?"

"Sounds like you're asking one right there," Eliza teases. "But, if everyone else is fine with going, I don't mind. We'll have plenty of time to get to know each other, after all."
She cradles Rainbow a last time, before recalling the now awake Togetic, finishing up snacking on her food, and beginning to get up. After a moment, though, she pauses, asking, "Uh... where would we be going?"

Teresa waves the question off semi-easily, since she had half an answer to the question. "We were told they had booked us rooms in one of the nicer trainer hostels in the area. Where exactly that is, I couldn't tell you. Of course if the two of you feel up to it, we could always go out and get a 'head start' on our journey. And by that I mean try and catch Pokemon, not actually head out already."
She waves her hand, pointing to herself and the other's Pokemon, pointing at Eliza's poke-ball. "We aren't exactly in the condition for something that drastic"

"I mean... I was kinda meaning more 'big picture'," Eliza says, "But finding where we're staying works too. And... yeah. I think taking it easy for the rest of the day would probably be a good idea."

Nero shrugs at the conversation topic as he finishes up the last of his food, taking a long drink of his coffee. "Well, my vote is we figure out where we're staying for the night first, because..." He looks down at his thoroughly burned through clothes and sighs. "I'd like to change, if possible. Kinda curious to see if we bump into Zayna's daughter too, she seems interesting. Beyond that, catching pokemon sounds good, and I'd like to maybe try and hunt down some more 'street level' leads on this Uncrowned King group, if there's any left lurking in the town and we have a chance to find them, well they destroyed my favorite hoodie, so I wouldn't mind ruining their day too. As for long term stuff, we can figure it out later, maybe tonight or something. We should take advantage of this first day of adventure while we can! Only one first, after all."

"I dunno..." Eliza says, a little hesitant, "do we really want to go poking after this guy, when we could have died from people working for him? I mean, I want to know more, too... but, uh, maybe we do it with less asking people who might kill us for asking the wrong questions. Especially with our Pokémon like this."

Teresa blinks, she had gotten her answer, but the secondary question wasn't something she was prepared for. Pursuing those who had attacked them? It didn't sound ideal, but now that she thought on the matter she could understand the appeal, if only barely.
"I recommend we find the small objective of where we are staying first, as it seems we will need to have a larger conversation about the nuances of what path we will take, though I favor the idea of later today doing a small amount of exploration, to better fill out your teams" She felt she needn't mention that most of her plans involved breeding, which meant her team required significant amount of time to get stocked, though she would use other one's she captured until her perfect ones were bred.
