Oronis just sighs, but doesn't say anything to Donovan, instead looking straight as Esthia, who's still glancing in Donovan's direction, and jabbing his needles into her roots. "No. You leave them alone. You have a problem. And I'm the one going to deal with it." Esthia shrieks, backhanding Oronis, even as the ghostly fire begins spreading, rapidly consuming the plants on the floor. The children nearby begin to flee from the blaze, quite unsure of what to do, or where to go. As Aliea begins running past Mica, she stops, freezes for a moment, and then moves up to hit the vine. "Let! Her! Go!" The Treecko says, hitting the vine... but, to not much avail. Mica's own shaking is much, much more effective, the vine tearing in several places. Unfortunately, it's still holding mostly together, and whips around, smashing Mica into the floor similarly to how she was doing herself... but with far less emphasis on her landing safely. While Oronis is able to just barely fend off the vine trying to come for him, the Petilil near Mica is not so lucky, and gets grabbed. Meanwhile, the flames continue to spread. Oronis hits with Poison Jab. Esthia hits with Feint Attack. Aliea hits with Pound. Mica hits with Flail. Mica takes 31 damage from Vine Whip. Mica takes 3 damage from Constrict. Vines miss Oronis, but grapple Petilil. Petilil and Sunkern take injuries from Constrict. Map

"Alisae, thanks." Mica gave the Treeko a weak smile before smashing her stony leaves into the base of the vine, her body shuddering. "We have to keep trying. EVERYONE AWAY FROM THE VINES! STAY AWAY FROM ESTHIA AND THE FIRE! SHE'LL HURT YOU!"
Mica uses Copycat on Alisae, Mica used Pound on the Vine. Mica gains +1 DEF CS from Copy Master.

Continuing on his path towards the large group of children standing in the distance, Donovan stops and fires off a volley of tendrils towards the vine that was still grappling the unconscious Sunkern " Hey, leave them alone!" Absorb on the nearest vines. 11 vs AC 2 for 25 Special Grass Damage

Once again, Oronis grows larger, though he looks exhausted. Esthia seems to take advantage of this opportunity, and whacks him down with a final blow, although the toxins in her system seem to give one last hurrah that causes her a great deal of pain - enough that the vines briefly spasm in sympathy, though another one does sprout up in the northwest. That's enough for Mica to be able to rip free of her own vine, though, leaving it in ragged tatters, just twitching on the floor. "Whoa..."While Donovan doesn't have quite the same effect on his fine, he seems to be enough of a threat to cause the vine to unwrap itself from the Sunkern, and whip around towards him. The children, for the most part, seem to heed Mica's instructions, but the Sewaddle seems to refuse to leave the Petilil's side, even as she's being choked out, and the Seedot near Donovan seems to be running towards the Sunkern, as the flams approach behind it. Even though he's collapsed, the vine near Oronis is continuing to attack him, Esthia staring down from above. Oronis uses Growth. Donovan hits with Absorb. It's not very effective. Donovan regains 3 HP. Oronis Faints from Astonish. Esthia is Staggered from the Poison. The Vines take damage. Esthia is cured of Poison. Mica hits with Pound. The Vine Faints. Petilil takes an injury and Faints from Constrict. Oronis is hit with Vine Whip.

Donovan charges towards the unconscious Sunkern once he notices the Seedot doing the same thing. Keeping one eye on the fire, and knowing he had at least a few moments before it was too close, the top of his buds began to glow as he smashed them towards the Vine, hoping to knock it down. 3 vs AC 4 for a Special Struggle on the Vine

Mica severs the vine at the base, rolling over in the air and landing on her feet with a palpable impact. Fierce determination in her eyes, she nodded to herself. "Alisae, gather up the biggest pieces of vine and follow me, start tying them together if you can, they need to be able to hang from my branches." Her little legs carried her as fast as they could closer to the petilil, and she released another heart-wrenching shriek against Esthia, the grass rippling between the Bonsly and the Trevenant. "You. Do your friend a favor and -run-, I won't let you down, but endangering yourself fruitlessly isn't going to help anyone." Mica spoke poignantly and directly to the Sewaddle.

In her madness, Esthia seems to be ignoring most of her surroundings in order to focus on the fallen Oronis with single-minded ferocity. Even as the flames expand, she simply appears to pay them no heed, not moving at all from her spot. The other Pokémon in the room, though, don't take things so cavalierly, fleeing from the vines and encroaching flames, the Seedot bravely running on its stubby legs next to the vine that Donovan is keeping occupied in order to gently try and ease its companion onto itself - an impressive feat for something with no arms. The only one that seems hesitant is the Sewaddle, torn between safety and his friend. "Aritis," comes the cry from Aliea, looking up from where she was gingerly picking up the torn remnants of the vines. "I need you to come help me get these together. Please. Miiica can help Elyra. She can actually fight." Glancing between everything, eventually bounds towards the Treecko, though not without glances at the Petilil, who finally falls silent as the pressure of the vine knocks her unconscious. Meanwhile, back over on Donovan's side, his attempts to take care of his vine are momentarily unsuccessful, as the spiked tendril manages to get out of the way of his attack, before wrapping itself around him. Unfortunately, he's not as resistant to spikes as Mica is, and they dig into his body as the vine squeezes on him. Donovan misses. Esthia hits with Feint Attack A vine grapples Oronis and hits with Constrict. Another hits with Vine Whip. Donovan is Grappled. Donovan takes 18 damage from Constrict. Petilil faints from Constrict.

As the vine wraps around Donovan, he realized he won't be able to do much to break free. Looking over and seeing the Seedot do its best to save its friend, as the fire fast approaches, Donovan begins to fire water from the top of his bud and dowses everything nearby including the Sunkern and the vine. As the water stops spraying he looks at the Seedot once more, the vine closing ever tighter around him " I'll keep this thing distracted, get your friend back towards the rest and away from the fire. Me and Mica will take care of everything, okay?" He smiled, feigning confidence before biting down fruitlessly on the vine, unable to do anything else Donovan is using Water Sport....and that's it for this turn

This is stupid. It's the only thing I can think of and it's stupid. At first my body was just moving on my own, but now that I really see her for what she is, I understand what is important here. Thank you Enya.
Mica took in the battlefield once more. She hoped Oronis was okay. Donovan had known him better, but he had seemed so sad about being the responsible ones. They had disturbed this place and the peace it contained. It was too late to take that back now. Mica swung her heavy leaves into the base of the vine.

Even with the fire lapping at her roots, Esthia continues to basically ignore the flames, whether through control or rage, as she continues lashing at the fallen body of Oronis. Donovan, on the other hand, takes precautions, even as the vine whips him around - thankfully fairly ineffectually - and squeezes. The vine near Mica releases the Petilil as she almost tears it straight from its base, and 'turns' to face her, the Grass Type falling to the ground. Nearby, the Sewaddle seems to be deep in concentration weaving vines together. The vine currently grasping Oronis' prone body flails it around... until it hits the ground with a sickening snap that seems to travel over all of the crackling of the flame, or the panicking of Pokémon, or the sounds of struggling, or the creaking of Esthia. Esthia hits with Astonish. Donovan uses Water Sport. Mica hits with Flail. Donovan is missed with Vine Whip but takes 17 damage from Constrict. A vine hits and kills Oronis.

Mica felt it as much as she heard it, as though someone had suddenly made her swallow a glacier and it sat heavy, cold, and unmoving in her stomach. The sound carried the same sort of finality as the time her grandparents explained that she wouldn't see her mom and dad. Not in this lifetime.
No one would see Oronis again either. All the children would have to remember this. Where they were, what they were doing in that exact moment their soft spoken caretaker had died. Mica took in the vivid, gruesome scene. The children would only have to remember if they lived.
She would rather help them through it.
Finding the momentum to keep up the fight at such a loss almost felt hopeless, but watching Alisae and the others banding together to do as she asked, as though it meant the world was moving. Mica glanced back at the petilil, wondering if the vine would return to crushing it if she left.

With the sound of Oronis's final moment ringing out across the room, something within Donovan snapped. This only happened because they had come here. Things had been fine, there had been laughing and singing and love. But now there was fire and death and screaming. After a moment he noticed the scream was his own, but it was in anger and not sadness. His bud began to glow once more as he brought it down on the vine, smashing into it repeatedly as he tried to free himself. Everything was wrong, and it was all his fault. His, and that damned tree. As his strikes continued, he looked at Esthia with hatred in his eyes, the fire reflected back in them. 4 vs AC 4

Donovan's struggling manages to break free of the vine's grasp, tearing it to shreds. But, he notices that there hadn't been much resistance anyways. The children are still in varying stages of distress - some clearly having seen what happened to Oronis, others still preoccupied with the advancing fire - but besides that and the sound of hungry flames... there's a stillness and silence in the room. There seems to be a momentary respite, as neither Esthia nor the vines that she is animating have even twitched for the last few seconds. Even the flowers that had been opening and closing on the walls and ceiling now are frozen in stasis. Despite the fire beginning to catch onto her roots, there is no reaction, no sound. She just stares at the body of the guardian that lays before her. The Vine Faints from Struggle.

Mica hadn't picked up on the palpable shift of mood in the room at all, she was still upset, still determined, still moving. A rolling stone gathered no moss, and she couldn't stop. She took another swing at the vine, knowing that she couldn't leave something like that behind to hurt the children.

Seemingly satisfied with her task, she waddled back towards her new friend. "Alright, tie what you've got to my leaves. I'm going to do something dumb but it's all I can think of... after that I just want you all to be safe, okay? I'll do my best."1d20·2d6+25

Upon being freed, and seeing Esthia staring at the corpse without moving, Donovan begins to dash away from the flames and towards the children "Come on everyone! Get towards the door but stay in front of me. I can put out the fire a little bit at a time if it gets too close to you!"
He caught his breath before turning back towards the flames and taking a deep breath, preparing himself to send out another wave of water if it got too close.

The Treecko and Sewaddle seem confused, but do as Mica asks, tying a few vines around her 'leaves' once she's stopped ripping the frozen vine in front of her to shreds. The other children seem to be following instructions, moving towards the still blocked exit as the fire advances. As the fire almost surrounds her, consuming one of her vines and beginning to lap up her roots, Esthia seems to finally notice the fire, glancing over at it, before gently picking up Oronis' form before it's able to be burnt, cradling it in her two massive hands. The Vine Faints from Mica's Flail, and another Faints to the fire.

Feeling confident that the children would continue to follow instruction, Donovan moves down towards Mica, and Esthia. Seeing Mica smash the vine before having the mantle placed on her, Donovan calls out "Mica! Wait!"
"Oronis said that she has been around long enough that she deserves her rest. Maybe that means she should go out in her own terms." He says with a sigh, watching as the larger Pokemon cradles the broken form of Oronis "He also said it was his job to help people move on when their time has come and now that he's dead it seems like she's accepted it too" The Budew held back tears as he looked towards the children helping the cape onto Mica "We shouldn't waste his sacrifice and instead should focus on protecting the kids like he asked. His last wish was for us to make it out of here safe, to continue our dream. We should make sure the kids have the same chance"

Mica tipped forward a little as Donovan called to her, but didn't answer him immediately. "You'll have to carry her, the both of you." She bobbed towards the Petilil, before approaching the Trevenant and the fire with less speed then she had been attending the other tasks in this hectic moment in her life. "You killed the strongest Pokemon here, the only one that knew anything about fighting. You won Esthia. Are you happy about it?! Still feel so self-assured about gathering the plates and bringing the world together again?!" Mica verbally bit into the tree fiercely, her body reflecting the ruddy light of the fire, tears picking up the orange and yellow flickers.
"You terrified all these children that used to climb on you and talk about who they liked, or their favorite smells, and if you don't open the way for them, this will be their last memory. Of you. Of the monster you turned out to be."

There's momentary silence, as the fire creeps ever closer. "Do you think I... don't know that?" comes the whispered reply. "I have lived long. To protect this place. But when the time came..." She takes Oronis' body, and gingerly places it in the last of her nearby vines, which wraps around it and begins taking it towards the entrance, where the vines that were there move aside. "...I became the danger. The corruption I feared. I failed."
She turns towards Donovan. "Child of here-and-not. Come forth." At last, the tree begins to shift from where she'd steadfastly stood the entire time, roots creaking, flames catching where she steps. Beneath where she was sitting is a pedestal, similar to what was in the other two temples. On top of it, lies a green stone tablet. "Will you take this?" she asks. "From here. Unite them. Let those here... feel the sun." She sounds tired, but a little wistful.

Donovan nods to Esthia, tears forming in the corners of his eyes "I'm so sorry. I'm sorry we came here and woke you up. But I'll take that, and we'll get all the others and then everyone in here can feel the sun and the wind and see the sky. I'll make sure that you and Oronis weren't lost for nothing"
He walked forward towards the Plate and touched it with his buds, hoping to leverage it in a way that would make it possible for him to carry it.
