"They're just normal houses. Maybe a little old-fashioned, but nothing out of the ordinary. Fits a town with such a plain name," Lucas mutters mostly to himself as he takes in the sight of the neighborhood. Yeah, nobody's outside their homes, but that's might not be unusual depending on what the community is like. The place definitely isn't deserted, since everything still seems well-kept. He glances at each of the nearby houses, specifically paying close attention to any uncovered windows to catch any signs of activity inside, but finds nothing of note. "You might be right. Doesn't look like anyone's home around here, so we should just keep going further into town." As the boy proceeds to move forward after sharing his conclusion, faint noises up ahead catch him off guard and he instinctively recoils a few steps. It takes him a second to let himself calm down, then he whispers to the others, "Wait. I can hear something up ahead, but it's really quiet. I can't tell what it is."

Superbia frowned at the lack of walls surrounding this village, wondering if that's what caused whatever problem they were supposed to solve. The houses looked quaint enough, but the emptiness belied that something was off in this place.
When Lucas mentions the noises, Superbia scratches his chin "Do the two of you want to scout ahead then? Or should we just stride through town and see whats happening?"

Iga quietly sized up Lucas at Superbia's request and shook his head, but his following statement seemed to hold no relation to the discarded thought. "I believe you should continue forward as though the on-goings of this place is of no concern to you, and I will shadow. Should there be conflict, I will be by your side. We must keep in mind that this is a prison built for four. Teamwork is necessity." Piece said, the short man whisked into the shadows of a building as he moved up the street.
(Iga is advancing stealthily towards the commotion.)

Ritsuko had many concerns, but decided waiting around wasn't going to be much better. She decides to push on ahead down the main street, but sticks close to buildings just in case she needs to hide in an alley.

Truth be told, Lucas is relieved when the older man says that he'll go check ahead by himself. He doesn't want to admit it, but he's getting cold feet about the whole situation after hearing the unknown noises, and the last thing they need is for him to get tripped up and cause a mess. "Okay... Be careful." Once the man swiftly disappears into the shadows, Lucas takes a deep breath and continues walking, not particularly staying on the sides like Ritsuko since he has a feeling that he won't stick out too much.

Superbia nods as Iga disappears and Ritsuko takes to the side of the street, near the houses. He thought of doing the same for a moment before deciding against it. With his clothing even sticking near the side streets wouldn't really keep him hidden, and this way if anything came at Lucas, he was right here to defend the child. Of course, he didn't say any of that. With a flourish, he gestures towards the center of town "After you, Sir Albin. I'll take up the rear in case anyone tries to flank us. Stealth goes two ways after all"

Walking down the street, the sounds become louder, and soon resolve into the sounds of... play and laughter. Approaching where they're coming from, and walking over a hill, the group can see a group of children of varying ages kicking a ball around in the middle of the street. One child is off to the side, kicking her feet while sitting at a table that has what appears to be a pitcher of liquid on it, looking both ways down the road.
So far, the group engrossed in playing doesn't seem to have any idea that you're there. The one at the table might have seen Superbia and Lucas, from the way that she's leaning towards the pair, but there hasn't been so much as a head turned towards Iga or Ritsuko.
From this point, too, you can see more of the town, including some taller buildings that seem to be more towards the center. One of the tallest appears to be a tower, with perhaps a clock set in it, though it's too far away to say for sure.

The sense of uneasiness that was weighing on Lucas evaporates when he sees the quaint sight, and the boy relaxes his guard. Nothing must be that wrong if children are playing out on the street, but maybe they could get a better idea of the problem that the book was talking about from the top of the central tower. In any case, Lucas continues walking down the road as normal, making sure to go around the kids playing with the ball. As he passes by the one girl's stand, he gives her a polite wave and smile. "Bonjour!"

Iga observes from the shadows, uncertain what Lucas' strange greeting might stir from the children. There did not appear to be any adults in sight, nor any indication that anything was wrong here beyond that particular fact. He considered the surrounding buildings for points of entry.

Superbia decided to let Lucas take the lead in this case, not wanting a repeat of the boys initial reaction to him, especially since these children seem even younger.
He hung back a ways and looked around, actually they all seem to be very young....odd. He wondered to himself if that's why they were called here, to find out what had happened to the adults, or if it was some other mystery. Either way, for the moment he was content to stand back and let the standard human talk to the children.

Kids happily playing in the street. It brought back some memories, but Ritsuko wasn't about to go up, and terrify them. Lucas seemed more than willing to talk to them. Hopefully his timidness wouldn't keep him from finding out what sort of "problem" was in this town. Ritsuko kept an eye on Lucas from a nearby alley in between some houses.

"Oh, hello!" the girl says, cheerily, as Lucas walks up. "Would you like some lemonade?" Indeed, on the front of her table is a little sign saying 'Lemonade §50.'
She takes a glance again past Lucas, though, and stares at Superbia. "Whoa..." she breathes, before getting up and slowly walking up towards him. "Are you a fairy?" she asks, wide eyed. "Papa says that fairies live in the forest, and that's why I'm never supposed to go out there alone... so are you one?"
Iga notes that there seems to be a door pretty much front and center to each building. None of them seem to be guarded beyond a fence that seems trivially easy to even hop over, or just walk around. Clearly the people here are not concerned about security.

While the girl approaches Superbia with awe, Lucas takes in a quiet breath, trying to steel himself for a little act. He had been thinking about a few cover stories for the group's incongruous appearances on the walk to the town, and though playing it off as them being these fairies could be an easy solution at the moment, from the way the girl's father warned her about them, it doesn't seem like a good idea long-term. So, the boy falls back to his first plan, hoping it holds up.
Lucas brightly answers her, with seemingly no trace of hesitation, "Ah, don't you just love his costume? It's for a play we do on our travels, and why we came to Rivertown. Please be careful about touching anything; we don't have any replacements left." He glances at the sign with the price and takes off his backpack to look at the money he has on hand. "And I'd like to buy a lemonade for all of the troupe, so four times fifty equals... two hundred, got it. Um, can you tell me how much this piece is? I'm afraid I still don't know the currency very well," he sheepishly asks the girl while digging out one of the coins and showing her.

Superbia gently touched his horn for a second upon being called a fairy, before listening to Lucas tell the child that they were performers.
With a flourish of his short cape, the demon bowed "Yes, I am no fairy, but the great dragon Fafnir. Or at least that's who I'm supposed to be. Lucas here plays the hero Sigurd." He nods once at the child. Yes, that makes sense, at least those legends are something from his homeland, hopefully it makes sense here as well. Everyplace has dragons, right?

As Ritsuko watched the others interact with the children, she wasn't sure if they were good at handling children, or they just foolishly said whatever came to mind with no planning ahead. She scratched her head, and as worried as she was about her own hang ups, she slowly came out of her hiding spot to join Lucas and Superbia. Hopefully her own skills at handling kids hadn't diminished too bad. "...H-...H-Hello...."

Such small fences. Iga warily studied the white wooden slats, clearly painted so white as to make the blood of transgressors more clearly visible to the patrols this town must have. He squatted down and examined the angular ridges of the fencing, running a finger over the crest of one in particular. Oddly not sharp, and it did not seem to be magically warded. Perhaps an anti-cavalry measure. Daringly, he leapt over the small fence, only to realize a second later there was a similarly small gate nearby.
The gate might've been trapped, he was truly wise. He continued through the side lawn towards the back of the house, remaining low. He would find a door or a window out of sight of the children, and survey a building. Lucas seemed to spin lies easily, and Superbia was capable at improvisation. These things were good.

"Aw..." The girl seems disappointed at Superbia not actually being a fairy, but brightens up as Lucas offers to buy lemonade. "Okay!" She looks at his coins. "Those one there are 100s, and that there is a 50, and those..."Kid's Lemonade: This excessively sugary drink provides a digestion buff that may be traded in for +2 Speed CS. As she explains the coins to Lucas (and Superbia), the other children seem to start noticing the group. The stares seem to mostly be in curiosity, rather than fear, as the ball is stopped being kicked around. As Ritsuko approaches, the girl waves, and beams at the woman, holding out a cup that Lucas had paid for. "Oh, hello," she says brightly. "You look like a, uh..." she seems to be searching for a word, "uh... play-person, too. What are you?"Iga's attempts to defeat the lock to the back door of the house seem fruitless... until he tries the knob and the door easily opens. It seems as if they're entirely casual about security here. The door opens into what looks like a hallway, with a room with furnishings to the left, and one of smooth, angular surfaces to the right.

Ritsuko gulps, and nods. "Y-Yes...We are a...traveling group of...play-people, and I'm a-...a normal person." Ritsuko moves some of her hair behind her ear. "Um...Tell me...Are your parents around?"

Some manner of beast pelt occupied the entire floor of the furnished room. What manner of people could slay something so large? Iga knelt low and inspected it, running his fingers over the soft surface. The children hadn't seemed particularly war-like in their discussions with the others, perhaps the training came later or was relegated to a certain caste of warrior. Leaving this mystery where it lay, he crept into the opposing room with it's squared surfaces and things as smooth as they were.
Then it struck him, what if this apparent disinterest in security was an indication of these people's strength. If one had no equal, what was there to fear? It set him more on edge.

Drinking the strange drought, Superbia shook his head at the rush of...something, as it enters his system. This child must be a prodigy of an alchemist, since it normally took a powerful potion to give him this much energy "This...Lemonade. It's very good, I feel full of energy already."
He smiled softly as the child explains the money to both him and Lucas, nodding along the whole time as his internal theory was confirmed. Being able to brew such potions and having a grasp on the monetary system at such a young age, yes this child must be some sort of genius. Lucas did well on choosing which one to talk to
