Sam: I'd say so, too! I don't know what all is entailed in digging up fossils, but it seems like it's the big thing going on in Ratoon, and we've got excavation gear, so I'm up for it. Let's go visit the Pokemon Center and maybe the Mart first, though.
Doug: Good; take your time, but when you're ready, come meet me in the hills west of this museum, and we'll go from there!

Wally: Sounds great. But before we go, sir, I actually have a few things I'd like to get your expertise on.
Wally presents the ruby, the shiny gold stuff, and the fossil.

Doug: Well; how'bout that?! Looks like you've already dug some stuff up! That sparkly mud, I can weigh, but I think it's pyrite. That looks like an authentic ruby and fossil, though. Looks like a carapace, of some sort...

[OOC: I apologize for a delayed response today. I had to take my phone in to get repaired, but I'll also admit, I'm drawing a real blank on how to implement digging up fossils in a way that's exciting. Let me think a bit longer on this, and I'll come up with something; if I can't make it fun, I'll at least make it short. I'm open to suggestions, though; after all, testing, refining, and adding to this game's mechanics is a big part of why I'm running this campaign.]

[OOC: Sure thing. For now, I'd like to have Doug identify the items given to him and then I'll just have Wally go looking for wilds until you get the digging encounter all figured out, and I'll find other things to do until your second player is ready to start and then we can challenge the Gym.]

[ OOC: I'm back.] Sam and Wally, having finished their business, go back towards the museum to help Doug out with the dig. They see Doug, up on the ledge, and hear him shouting in fear. Doug: No! Get away from that bone; you mongrel! Sam and Wally run over to see that a Herdier has approached a patch of bones partially embedded in the mountain side. He grabs one with his teeth, and pulls it out! drive.google.com/file/d/1MjtEG2jFw_4rzvUle0vu8J1UP23VIifJ/view?usp=sharingDoug: Drop that bone! The Herdier growls menacingly and lowers, ready to pounce! Battle! The human initiative is Wally, Sam, Doug! Select your Pokemon!

Wally chooses Bronzor, and will deploy him as far as he can toss the ball.

[OOC: I've been wanting to rework the Poke Ball throwing mechanic. When I wrote the rule as 4+Str modifier, I didn't realize that it would render some people unable to throw the balls any length. I think I ought to make it a bit longer than 4, since throwing balls some length is pretty important to a Pokemon game. Right now, I'll give you a max of 2; we'll look more into revising and balancing this later.]

Sam: Go; Leila! [He uses Telekinesis to levitate his Poke Ball some extra distance.] Doug: Go; Aeron! Fly around that dog and hit it with Rock Slide! Aeron (An Aerodactyl) does just that! Herdier retreats from Aeron; tackling Leila in the process! Sam: Leila, retreat and boost Bronzor with Helping Hand! Leila does so. drive.google.com/file/d/1pvDrZ7oGZD5-98a1nvxp7Jj0ftzTjq7F/view?usp=sharing

Wally scans the Herdier. He then has Bronzor float right up to the Herdier and use Tackle.

Bronzor uses Tackle! Herdier fainted!
Aeron, Leila and Bronzor gained 510 XP and leveled up!
Bronzor learned Confuse Ray!
PokeDex: Herdier, the Loyal Dog Pokemon. It's thick fur hardens into a strong sort of armor, useful in battle. But it sometimes gives it horrible hairballs!

Doug goes and inspects the bone.
Doug: Hmm; there are a few tooth-marks, but they're nothing some cement-plugging can't fix. Remember that many fossilized bones are partially or totally rock, anyway. You two can consider your admittance fee to the museum paid, so come by whenever!

[OOC: If you're still wanting to wait for the new guy, I spoke to him today and he doesn't know quite whether he'll be ready. I can put off the gym battle a bit more, or take things in a different direction if you like, but at this point I'd say don't expect a new player soon.]

The next morning, the first thing Wally does is attempt to repair another broken Poké Ball. After that, he and Sam can head over to the museum to pay it a visit, check out the exhibits, and see if Doug has been able to identify the items that Wally left in his possession.

Wally successfully fixea a ball! Afterward, he and Sam go to the museum again. Doug greets them. drive.google.com/file/d/1LmAil4em-Tpf5UWWI37Okx3gbQpHCPXe/view?usp=sharingDoug: Hello again! I have analyzed the items you gave me. The ruby is real. The sparkly stuff, I'm afraid, is just pyrite. Not worthless, but not too valuable. The fossil is of a Tirotuga; I think I can clone one from it if given more time! [ OOC: Give me some time and I'll post the part about exploring the museum.]

Wally: Awesome, thank you.
He accepts the ruby and the pyrite.
Wally: I'm going to go sell the ruby and the pyrite. How much would it cost to bring that Pokémon to life?

Doug: I'd say P1000. I can't guarantee success, but if I'm paid I can get to it rather quickly.
