Wally disappears between buildings in the distance, and Bo gratefully hands his pack over to Justin for the time being. "Thanks, man," he huffs. "Sure glad we met you. Two of our group left us earlier today."
The dirt path of Route 01 begins underfoot. Trees and tall grass line the route on either side.
"We're looking for a break in the overgrowth on the right side of the path!" Jenny calls back, still marching forward without a drop in speed. "We're looking for three children - two boys and one girl - their names are Arnold, Zafina, and Monty! They were last seen wearing blue, yellow, and red, respectively!"

At almost halfway up the route, something casts shadows down onto the group. A cacophony of squawking slowly rises until it fills your ears. Looking up, you can all see a big swarm of Spearow. They look very angry. Eight of them break away from the swarm and fly down to harass you, squawking loudly as they flutter just overhead, swiping dangerously close with their sharp little talons. "Oh, no!" cries Jenny, covering her head with her hands. Despite being armed with a melee weapon and at least one Pokémon, Jenny is no help. She appears to be too stunned by the situation to act right now. Perhaps all of her training never covered what to do when swarmed by angry little Flying-types. (The Spearow's shared initiative is 10. Instead of telling me your initiative and your Pokémon's like I've been asking you to, just supply those values in the new thread I've set up for that kind of thing.)

As Justin ducks to avoid the claws of an angry bird, he crouches to place Nike on the ground. Then, moving slowly, he takes off his hat, and puts it on the little rock Pokemon. Cautiously, he stands back up, arms held out to the side, looking up at the aggressive avians. "Whoa there fellas," he says, amusing himself slightly with his affectation of the local candor. "We don't have time to be fighting with ya'll now. What's the problem?" He reaches into his bag, and removes a candy bar, holding it up towards the flock. "Is this what you're after?"

There should be a +1 on that. Forgot to re-add the sunglasses bonus when I transferred sheets. Spearows dig sunglasses. 4d6

Success. One of the eight Spearow swoops through and snatches the candy bar out of Justin's hand, pivoting back around to land in the middle of the route about fifteen feet away. It begins pecking at the candy bar. That Spearow's Disposition changes from Hostile to Indifferent.
The remaining seven Spearow are Hostile, and they elevate to Very Hostile once they understand their number has dropped by one.

Asa had watched Justin's understanding toward Bo with a twinge of regret. There were times that she couldn't understand why the first thing out of her mouth was mean. She might have even been on the verge of apologizing if not for the Spearow attack on the group. “Brandy, you’ve got the reach. Burn them out of the sky!” The Fennekin’s fur began to smoke and crackle at the anticipated conflict. Asa released the toothy Totodile from it’s ball. Maw snapped his jaws reflexively a few times and looked toward her for direction. “Maw, if they swarm Brandy, break their scrawny necks!”Her tone and quick directions showed that she had a firm grasp of conflict and looked quite fearsome commanding her troops. When the battle was done, feeling like an ages long trial to complete it, he noticed that the others had seemed to have mostly left. Geeze. Leaving him on his own, what the heck? It took him another age to find them again, out of breath when he finally caught up once more, the party seeming to have both thinned out and grown all at once. He was so tired, he really could not muster up the snark to respond to the rather impolite comment by the newcomer, just handing his bag over for the time being. He was glad at least he had managed to briefly stop at the pokemon center before catching up with the others, as Toks had been somewhat roughly handled by the fight, suffering some fairly heavy injuries, and simply needing some rest even after the Center trip.
Looking at his pokeballs, he grimaced down at them a bit, holding the Croagunk’s ball. He had given the new pokemon a...somewhat Brutal introduction to the team whilst he was at the center earlier, even giving the Pokemon a somewhat cruel name. Botshba, which was a crude portmanteau of the words ‘mud frog’ in an old, foreign tongue he looked up a while back. After a solid talking to, he had cowed the Croagunk to a degree, before calming down himself. He really should not be this mean, but unless he established the hierarchy, the pokemon would cause trouble more than like.
He pondered a bit as they traveled. Perhaps he could do something to try and ingratiate the croagunk to him a little? While he wanted the Pokemon to understand the pecking order, he would prefer it to not resent him.
The sudden cawing of several pokemon shook him from his thoughts, looking up to see the flock of flying Pokemon streaking for them. With a bit of shock hitting him, he was a touch slower to react. Reaching for the two balls he took, he tossed out Dym (Magby) and Botshba (Croagunk).
“Dym, Use Leer when they swoop in close, and Botshba, knock one out of the sky with Mud-Slap!” He ordered out in quick succession, the Magby flaring up menacingly, as the Croagunk reached for the ground, scooping some dirt that dampened a bit in its grip.

"Well, at least one of them has some taste," Justin says with a cocky smile. "Nike, pick one of the other seven to focus on, and hit it with a tackle. Just like we practiced." The little Roggenrola looks amusing as she readies for battle, still wearing Justin's hat.

One Spearow is KO'd by the powerful tackle. The Spearow aren't content to grief the party any longer. Their flight patterns noticeably change as they begin to swoop in for actual attacks.
(Combat begins in earnest now. Reminder: Spearow group init is 10, and there are six of them left. Checking the Initiatives thread, I can see that Brandy acts first. Asa may command her now.)

"Yes!" Justin exclaims with a raised fist, his cocky smile turning into a wide grin. "That was great Nike! Let's keep it up." Their very first battle opened with a one-hit KO! That was certainly a good way to start their adventure. "Let's pick another one, and go for another tackle," he says. Then, with a wink to the other members of the group, "I think if we take out two more, we're officially MVP."
Justin applies Focused Orders to Nike, and once again tags the chosen Spearow. Nike used Tackle! | AC: | IncJP6fh1d20+2 ≥ 2 + Target Evasion | Type: | Normal | Frequency: | At-Will | Damage: | 1d8+18 | Crit Adds: | 1d8+8 | Damage Category: | Physical | Range: | Melee, 1 Target, Dash, Push | Effects: | The target is Pushed 2 Meters. |
Nike reaches 3 momentum at the end of the round. 4 if Tackle hits again. That puts his evasions at 4/3/5. 1d20·1d8+18·1d8+8

Justin shielded his head with his arms as the angry Spearows attacked him, for some reason totally ignoring Nike, despite the damage she was doing. Still, they managed to cut up his hands pretty well and got a couple jabs through to his scalp, leaving him bleeding, the red liquid threatening to stain his coat! Some of the Pokemon he'd trained for Professor Birch had been aggressive, but none had been this bad. "Ow! he exclaimed indignantly. "Nike, get them off of me please! Finish off the one you just hit."
Justin used Focused Orders! Nike used Tackle! | AC: | 163hMWKj1d20+3 ≥ 2 + Target Evasion | Type: | Normal | Frequency: | At-Will | Damage: | 1d8+18 | Crit Adds: | 1d8+8 | Damage Category: | Physical | Range: | Melee, 1 Target, Dash, Push | Effects: | The target is Pushed 2 Meters. |
Nike will then continue to gain momentum as usual: 5 at the end of the round, 6 if tackle hits. His evasions then are 5/4/6. 1d20·1d8+18·1d8+8

"Gah! Get off me you featherduster!" Bo cried out as one of the birds pecked dangoursly at him, feeling some of his hair getting tugged free by one of the pecks, and a small scratch on his cheek as the bird pecked and nipped at him. He tried to pull back with Asa. "Dym, Smog attack, pull back near Brandy and get as many as you can in a shot!" he said, pointing towards Brandy. Bo uses Longshot Order on Dym, and pulls back in same direction as Asa. The little fire Pokemon quickly waddled its way a bit awkwardly towards Brandy, hobbling a little as one of it's legs was particularly bruised from one of the Spearow attacks, it's chest puffing up as it neared Brandy, and shot out a long line of thick, toxic, hot smoke, that seemed almost like more than the small Pokemon could contain, trying to catch as many in the line of smog as it could. "Alright, Nike, just one more!" Justin cheered, raising his fist, and then wincing as he contracted the tendons that had been Pecked by the Spearow. "Let's finish strong! Stick with what's working, and use Tackle," he said, instructing the Roggenrola to attack the other bird that had assaulted him, and had failed to land a hit on her just moments before.
Justin tags the Spearow and uses Expend Momentum (Level 2)! Nike used Tackle! | AC: | lWlgQU7q11 ≥ 2 + Target Evasion | Type: | Normal | Frequency: | At-Will | Damage: | 1d8+18 | Crit Adds: | 1d8+8 | Damage Category: | Physical | Range: | Melee, 1 Target, Dash, Push | Effects: | The target is Pushed 2 Meters. |
At the end of the round, Nike gains one momentum, and another from Tackle, putting him back to 6. His evasion is currently its base because he's not under the effects of Focused Training.
Edit: The AC roll is 11 as per Expend Momentum. I seem to have broken it in the table. 11·1d8+18·1d8+8
